B complex and omega 3 fatty acids may help.

Mine has gotten bad in the last while. Wondering if my meds can have something to do with it?

Mine has also gotten bad these past couple of months... I thought it was the meds, but it has continued even after switching and going off meds.

I've experienced that a lot. It kinda goes like this:

anxiety > stress > depression > loss of concentration > memory loss > The Rage

I spoke to my T just this week about the likelihood that this was only temporary and was told in my case it could be improved with therapy and techniques but it was unlikely that I would completely get over it.

That was her advice to me, but no two cases are the same. I'd suggest talking to your pdoc or T

I hope it gets better for you!

It's weird, my memory of life before meds is pretty much intact, at least the important things are, but my memory has been shot since I started meds.

i too, remember before the brain damage, but not after, 20 yrs of no short term or long term memory, unless it was a trauma,,, i lived in the stream of consciousness for so long,,, then one day a professional i trusted recommended that i try using the Holosync auditory entrainment program, sold online by CenterPointe.com... i have been using it every day for almost 6 yrs, and finally my memory is starting to return ~!! i am so happy,, i had almost given up.... the program is long term and must be used every day for full benefit, but the Director/Owner of the site is slashing prices, trying to keep it available for current users, and of course to help new users. it averages about $40 a month, i think,, (math skills are still rudimentary). i'm only 6 months from completion, and it's like seeing graduation coming, i'm not ready for it to end.

do be careful when taking a med that affects your memory, it can be long term or even permanent, damaging the parts of the brain that recall, as well as those that save memories. i hope some one who reads this will find the same benefits i have with CenterPointe, which helps the two halves of the brain reconnect and rebalance, having many more benefits than just memory improvement,, such as mood stabilizing... best wishes, Gus

Lithium is known to cause memory loss, I have had really bad memory loss with Lithium, in fact my old Pdoc told me to look at it like practicing for alzheimer's, I was in my late 20's so I didn't think it was quite funny. I take a B complex and I also take my Omega's in oil form, it has improved my memory quite a lot.

I am sure memory loss it a common theme with a lot of psych meds.

Hi Gus. It was Holosync that I had the problem with - I posted a reply about it on the TV snow page. After completing the first 3 CD's I became extremely manic and accused my husband of trying to harm me. I was very angry for 3 days. I emailed Bill Harris about this and he said that Holosync should not have had this effect on me.
Anyway, I'm very glad to hear from someone who is almost done the program and doing great. Maybe I should start up again??

You know I saw a lot of this on that other site I belonged to. Everyone said it was because of the meds. and I have noticed that meds. could be the culprit.

I have recently been also diagnosed with ADD and take Concerta for it. My memory and concentration have improved a whole lot. I am at the highest dose.

A friend of mine goes to a pdoc who was the President of the Psychiatric Association and he said that people with BP have a greater change of suffering from ADD or ADHD. I don't know if he is right though.

You can start improving your memory and concentration by doing games in workbooks such as word search, crosswords that aren't impossible to do, or games online.

I find getting enough sleep and doing relaxations helps me to have a better memory.
Sleep is necessary for forming memories. The relaxations help me to minimise my anxiety which messes up my memory. So does depression

Using my own experience, my memory and other cognitive abilities have gotten much worse this year. Here's what I was told: my three psych meds all can impact memory. I'm not on 1, 2, but 3. So...it stands to reason they're making my memory bad. However, like some of the other posts may have indicated, a depressed mood, anxiety, stress or thinking too fast when manic as also things I know have impacted my memory - temporarily I guess you could say.
