A $22,000 preowned car. It was fully loaded with low miles:-) Still in over $50,000 credit card debt from 2 years of manic sprees and lots lost on gambling and drugs.

I once spent about $5000 just purchasing gold. It was shiny and cool and... shiny! This was back in 2004 when gold was a LOT cheaper than it is today and not going up as fast. I held onto it for a year, trying to salvage something from the impulse purchase, before having to cash it in for a small loss to cover some bills, now days I really wish I had held onto that gold!
Another time, I invested about $4k in a bunch of worthless stocks and eventually lost 90% of that money when all the stocks fell. Another time, when I was single, I spent over $1,000 over two days on hotels and hookers - fortunately I didn't catch anything from that experience. Now days, when I go hypomanic, I tend to buy books that I think I'll read through and learn everything I need to know from. Technical books, self-help books, Programming books - you name it. Now I got shelves full of books Ive never read and will never read most likely. On a related topic, anyone want to purchase some books on JSP and XML programming? They're only a few years out of date and the covers look really cool! |

I am an impulsive buyer in general. I spend 20-30 dollars extra than what I intend...almost always. Even when I am not hypo or mixed or whatever. A really good friend of mine had my credit card for several months.
I spent 350 dollars on a plane ticket to meet a friend. (She paid me back half later on) 450 on a new t.v. Spent my whole paycheck on it. U_U;; Probably a couple hundred dollars between my boyfriend and I on playing cards. Couple hundred on a cat, whose had 2 emergencies already. @_@;; (He's about 2 and healthy now!) I am not hypomanic but I can spend 200-300 dollars in a week, easily. Small purchases add up! I am thinking that I will have to learn how to budget somehow. :|

Last year it was $440,000 on a new house because 2400 sf was just too small for a new family of 3. (the house I bought has 5200 sf) Earlier that year it was $42,000 for a shiny new BMW. The house I can live with, the car I regret every day.

I've never really done anything too extreme in terms of spending.... Though, I am still a teenager so the only money I have to spend is the little bit I make that I'm not saving for college. The most I've ever done was feel really manic and decide I wanted to go out to eat for lunch so I took my entire family which wiped me out because I almost didn't have enough money for it. But food is my weakness, it's usually what I purchase when I'm manic.
Reading through these have really cracked me up and it's very interesting to read. Thanks for posting the topic!
