Hi all I've got a bit of a difficult question to post here today and I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me or give me a little insight.
I currently take sodium valporate (*UK*name) for epilepsy, however these pills do not help to stabilise my moods.
So firstly would it be likely that they will take me off this medication and swap it for a one that will stabilise me or will they leave them as they are and perhaps add another medication to the combination?
I've read most of the threads on here and can't find an answer, does anyone out there have any knowledge or experience of this themselves?
Take care all
J

I think by looking at the roots of the name that what you are talking about is called divalproex sodium in the U.S. This is the generic name for Depakote. I could be wrong. I take it as a mood stabilizer for bp, but it is also a seizure med.

Either way my best guess is that they would keep on the epilepsy med that is working for you and add something else to help stabilize your moods.

Not sure how that would work out, however, because my younger brother is on epilepsy meds and he cant even take over the counter drugs without an interaction. On Christmas break all it took was taking his meds a little later than usual and taking a Tylenol Cold pill to send him into a seizure when getting ready for work the following morning. He had been seizure free for months before that.

Hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes

I have taken Depakote also as a mood stabilizer- be advised, it can be very hard on the liver. My doctor had me take liver tests before and after (I already have some liver problems my doctor is aware of) and after only a few weeks, it sent my liver enzymes thru the roof ! I had to stop taking it right away.
