I used to smoke a pack and a half a day. My dr. told me that they did a study on people with mood disorders and the people with mood disorders were unable to give them up.

To prove her wrong, I stopped smoking 3 years ago, but still chew nicotine gum to this day, or else I would be a total B!tch.

Oddly enough, I am not able to physically smoke cigarettes. I tried to start not too long ago when I was in the psychiatric hospital, and after I was done I started to feel really weird. I ended up laying down on the sidewalk, and my legs started to shake so uncontrollably that I had to be pinned down, put in a wheel chair, and wheeled back in the hospital. It eventually stopped after about 20-30 minutes.

I question whether or not my epilepsy had something to do with it. It wasn't a seizure though...I was was fully conscious and able to talk and laugh, the only thing not working right was my legs!

Either way, I'm VERY grateful for this, because now I know I don't have an option to start smoking, so there's no temptation.
Thanks for this!

I don't smoke either. I'm relatively young, and it really angers me when I see people my age smoking. The fact that smoking can be deadly has been an integral part of our education since we entered school practically. How dumb can you be to start smoking when you've known since you were 5 that it probably would give you lung cancer?! Of course, if you are 20+ years older than I am, I understand that you were not as well informed. I try not to judge that age group.

Congrats, SunAngel, for overcoming the addiction. That really is quite an accomplishment!

I smoked from when I was about 16 until my early 30's. My dad was dying from lung cancer at the time. I was totally addicted and used hypnosis to quit. It worked on the 1st try and I never had an urge for one again, but I still ( 20+ yrs. later) occasionally dream that I'm smoking!

No - I have asthma. My first husband smoked - he didn't care, and boy was I ever sick until I left him. I had 3 inhalers and a nebulizer with 2 more meds, 3 x a day. Second hand smoke does kill.

I smoke about a pack a day and use about a can of snuff a day. Add's up to a nicotine level of about 4 packs a day in cigarettes. Hopelessly addicted

Used to smoke 3 pks /day. MDoc said I could go on smoking OR bring alzheimers dad home to live with me.

Mean mdoc.

Course I can pack a 40lb pack into the wilderness up 7% grade now & thought it was cool I could make it up 2 flights of stains then.

Yeah, I'm glad I quit 20 yrs ago this coming 1 Nov.

< Raises hand > Smoked a bit late teens/early 20's, then didn't for a couple of decades. Have been again for a few years now. Typically a half pack or less a day. Sometimes more. Depends. I know this perplexes people and I get that. But I don't care.

I have asthma due to second hand smoke exposure as a kid. Cigarettes make me extremely ill. No smoking for me, or husband or anyone hanging out in my home!

My pER pdoc said he never recommends that any of his patients attempt to quit smoking right away. Too good of a mood stabilizer and the symptoms of quitting can make bp worse

I smoked at least a pack a day for 10yrs including during my first pregnancy. After bub was born I went up to two packs for two years (coping thing) and gave up cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant a second time 5yrs ago. Haven't had one since.

i love smoking, chewing, snuff! any form of tobacco. i haven't had any for two years though. didn't want to anymore. plus i was a manager at a smoke shop/cigars store.
and wasn't about to quit lol.
i know people who try to quit and try and they have a hard time. i started smoking when i was 12 and quit when i was 27. in the end it was 2 packs a day plus a can of chew last me 3 days and a couple cigars a day.

it was easy, but i had enough i never said once i wanted t oquit until i did. and i love RYO.
Thanks for this!
