If not, what are you on?

I know it is different for everyone but it seems like every antipsychotic I've been on causes restless legs AT LEAST. I'm on abilify right now and I have restless legs and inability to sleep. Latuda gave me restless legs and anxiety. Geodon gave me restless legs and severe side effects. Risperdal gave me restlessness and weird face movements.

Lithium made me gain a ton of weight, acne, leathery skin, memory loss, mental slowness.

I feel hopeless about medication which in turn is making me feel hopeless about living life. It is obvious that I cannot be without medication. But what are my chances of finding a medication that doesn't cause such annoying daily side effects.

Im currently taking Seroquel XR and Lamictal Halcion and Xanax for sleep ..... Personally I have tried numerous combos of medications ,, still not sure if my currrent one is " the One" ...

I think most any medication for any illness has some side effects and they are all differant for each person..

Talk to your Doctor and let them know the side effects your having ,, some times they will change your meds or ask you stay on them a little longer in hopes the side effects go away .

Good luck with your search for the correct "combo " of meds

Wishing you Peace and Love

I am on Lamictal, Seroquel and haloperidol.

Lamictal doesn't seem to have any side effects on me.

Seroquel XR makes me really sedated so I am on Seroquel, to help me sleep. It causes me to feel hungry all the time so I gain weight.

Haloperidol makes me twitch involuntarily sometimes and I'm afraid
of tardive dyskinesia and NMS so I stopped taking a few days ago.

Was on Prozac, which landed me in hospital 3 times with severe mania
despite being on Lamictal, so I learned the hard way that I *cannot* be on anti-depressants.

My friends with schizophrenia and bp also said that antipsychotics
make them gain weight. It's a common side effect.

I personally think that depression is the lesser of 2 evils.
When I'm depressed I don't do anything.
When I'm manic I do lots of crazy and destructive things, which
I think is worse.

Others might disagree though. I guess it depends on the individual.

I take Abilify, which works for me, and it also causes akathisia. I was put on propranolol and it stopped it completely. Maybe you should give it a try. It is a generic, cheap, a beta blocker that is also used for high blood pressure and anxiety.

I see my pdoc Monday. He has put me on 3 other things in the past for it.. things for Parkinsons. They have either not worked or caused extreme anxiety. I'll ask for Propranolol on Monday. Until Monday, I have lowered my Abilify back down to 5 mg where it doesnt give me any side effects. I took Melatonin last night and I FINALLY slept. Thank all the possible Gods out there. Maybe I can make it work by taking "a pill for a pill".

I get a lot of side affects from everything I have tried, I've just learnt to deal with some of them knowing that with any meds I'm going to pay a small price.

if you have few bucks (euros?) to spare, I recommend trying bach essences. Not saying it will solve all your problems, but it can help some of it...

I have personalized remedy (http://www.bachfloweressences.co.uk/...y-Chooser.html... just fill in the "symptoms") and rescue remedy which i carry with me all the time. Placebo? I tried rescue remedy on a cat whom I was taking care of during a new years even last year.... He calmed down real quick.

speaking of placebo... I think if you chose the medical route, you should trust it. of course, be aware of the side effects.... but hope for the best. Don't overworry.

Yes risperdal and seroquel both have increased my appetite enormously. I hate it but finally feel ok so am just really trying to not overeat although it is almost impossible.

I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to put in another vote for Bach flower essences. Rescue Remedy really works. It's all I used during childbirth when my younger daughter was born. Takes the edge off any agitation. Like Venus said, it's not a cure-all, but it certainly helps.

The borderline part of this is great. I have been taking Lithium and when I have a conversation with someone I wonder "who is this person talking for me? they can't even finish a sentence!"

Just make sure that your baseline blood pressure is normal. If it is low, Propranolol or Atenolol are not a good idea. If you have it, take your medical (primary, not pdoc) record with you so that pdoc can see several blood pressure readings over time.

I'm only on Wellbutrin at the moment, and I get dry mouth from it. I make sure I have chewing gum any time I'm going to be talking a lot or exercising, since that seems to help. When my pdoc upped the dosage I had a couple weeks of constant migraines, but they went away.

When I was on Prozac, it made me hear voices. Got off of that one quick! I don't remember side effects for anything else, though - seems my body is generally tolerant.
