Anyone had success quitting smoking? My reg doc can't give me meds for it she said they can effect the moods, and mess with the BP.
Thank you.

I quit smoking with the help of Chantix, but I was watched VERY closely as it can cause sui thoughts. It worked for me and I didn't have any of the psych symptoms.

I was a heavy smoker and quit through hypnosis. I recommend going to a private session & not a group setting.

They say a low dose of Wellbutrin can help too...
(Used off the label)

I quit "cold turkey" but had already been on Wellbutrin for years, but my hubby also quit at the same time without anything. We ate a lot of Altoids (for the oral sensation) while trying to reset daily routines that involved smoking.

I have been quit for four months. I used the patch for a couple weeks. The directions say use them for eight weeks, but I was fine stopping them earlier.

E-cigarettes may help. You can get a disposable one for $9-$12 and step down the nicotine levels each time you buy one (different brands have different levels and some brands don't have any nicotine).

Im 29 with bipolar, been smoking roughly 12 years. Tried Wellbutrin, nicotine patches & gum with no results. Bought an electronic cigarette & it was absolutely disgusting & my pulmonary function is too poor to even get a good drag off it. I tried Chantix about a year ago & about a month or so into it, I got really good results. For about 2 months, I didnt even want to smell a cigarette....was really nice....even made my anxiety better. Normally when something stressful would happen I would automatically want to smoke to relieve it. When I didnt smoke, I couldnt do that & it really made the anxiety better. Well....I started smoking about 1/2 pack a day about 4 months ago. It started as just one here & one there & escalated from there. I am extremely manic right now & my doctors are very frustrated bc they havent been able to even somewhat get it under control for about 6 months now. I asked doc at last appt. if I could go back on Chantix. She said absolutely not until she made some progress with the mania. If I get a good bit better, she said we could discuss it further. There are ALOT of VERY serious side effects from Chantix so please keep a very close eye on any symptoms while taking it & have others keep an eye on you too in case its something you dont notice. When I took Chantix, I always laughed when people freaked when they found out I was taking it. I would say, I already have all of those symptoms anyways so I am fine. Not funny really, but I can find humor in it....gotta be able to laugh at yourself sometimes of you will go crazy!! Good luck!!!! This in very tough!!!
