So I was just taking a nap. I woke up and tried to get up out of the chair but I couldn't. Thought I was imagining this so I blink a couple times. So I went to pick my legs up andit felt like I was, but my arms never moved. I rubbed my eyes, but my hands never touched my face. I sat up in my chair, but didnt budge.
I pinched myself, but could feel nothing. I started to get frustrated and a little freaked out, so I tried to dump myself out of my chair, but I never fell. Then the alarm I had sent went off and I woke up for real and got up out of the seat like nothing. What the heck just happened to me? Anyone ever had this happen/heard of this?

It's never happened before? I'll do it several times in a night. Not always with the physical events you describe, but definitely dreaming that I'm waking before I do, "for real."
Sometime's I'll even figure out in my dream that I'm not really awake (because I'm not in the right place, for example).

When you're sleeping your body goes into atonia during REM. This is when your muscles lose strength. Often times when you're sleeping in REM (Dreams!) your body would make movements and act out your dream if it did not go into a natural state of atonia. So! When you wake up in the middle of a dream and you feel paralyzed it's generally because of this. (Otherwise described as sleep paralysis)
When you're about to wake up your body produces orexin, which is a hormone that promotes wakefulness. http://www.end-your-sleep-deprivatio...waking-up.html ^ That is a more detailed response about what I described. n.n (It's easier to read, too)

It sounds sleep paralysis. I had this before. I would experience not being able to move and I tried to move my eyes but I couldn't. It's not a nice thing to experience.

Thank you all for the info. I was sorta neat but scary at the same time because I need to be able to wake up to answer the phone, let people in the building and get people parts. This was just a 30 min nap

I agree with happy. The part of your brain that makes you not move during your dreams is still switched in even though you are conscious.

I've had that several times. The freakiest one was when I thought I was awake and my kids were climbing on me. I couldn't tell them to stop because one of them was on my throat. Suddenly I woke up and my kids ran into my room and climbed on me and I couldn't breathe. Then I woke up for real. The whole thing probably lasted seconds.
