I know I'm entering a manic state because I can't stop cleaning! What is the first sign that you get that you're moving into mania?

For me it's usually not sleeping, and yes the cleaning. Do you have a plan for times like this?

For me it's just that feeling inside my body that I need to constantly be doing SOMETHING.

I go high in hypo, but not manic. For early signs, cleaning is a biggie for me too (and OCD only compounds the lengths I go to(!))... taking on big projects with tools scattered everywhere... driving too aggressively... getting hugely annoyed at how stupid and slow people are...
But if I had to say the most common "first" is, it'd be talking way too fast and way too much. With cleaning a close second. |

Increased energy, thoughts and speech.

I take a keen interest in poetry and it all becomes so vivid to me, and sometimes beautiful illustrations to the verses come into my mind very fast, and at times it borders on a hallucination, as if people from the illustration are coming into the room from a book page or a computer screen. Yes, it starts so beautifully, and ends in abominable angry mania. I always wonder how something that starts so innocently can end so recklessly.
And then after the mania I have this very clear mind feeling when I realize that what has just happened was mania. |

If in the future in know I'm in hypomania, I will be calling or seeing pdoc ASAP.

Me too, because now we know how it unravels.

Absolutely!....
Also, It distresses me now to read posts from others who say.... "bring on the hypomania".... Can't stand it! They think because they are dx with BP II that it will never change to BP I, maybe not, but it's entirely possible. I know, it happened to me.

see my custom title. Yes, I am flippant about hypomania. I am flippant about life itself. And most of my hypomanic states *are* pleasant, so pretty hard not to wish for that........ for me it is increased energy and being quite enthusiastic about things. Need to do something. Thinking faster. Understand Serbian all of sudden (I am a Czech, so it is not that far fetched).

Try & be aware if moving into mania gets too out of hand.
Call your pdoc if need be. Just want you safe. ![]() Remember there are those of us that stay up quite late. ![]() |

5-6 days now into a manic state. Sleeplessness is definitely the order of the day. And I'm jittery, and a bit curt. A million projects on the mind. My mornings are 100 miles and hour then I bog down in the middle of the day but the days seem to end fine and I go to bed with projects for the morning in my head. Fortunately, this time around, I seem to be more clear-headed about everything. And no, I don't want this to end. This feels more of an approximation of my "real" self, or as I imagine my self to be.

I have only been diagnosed 10 months ago and I am having a hard time knowing what my triggers are. Not sleeping, shopping, and feeling like its time to rearrange the house are signs i've noticed so far. Also, if I am up late and begin to have auditory hallucinations (although I guess by that point I am into mania not transitioning).

I also only really experience hypomania. I start talking fast and animated and I also become a more aggressive driver. Music triggers me into a GREAT mood. More recently, my bf has told me I need to slow down- that's a biggie for me.
I also don't get tired in the evenings close to when I ought to be going to sleep. I then usually have to read or do Soduko to fall asleep. At work I cannot concentrate on a project and am always striking up conversation with colleagues |
