I was on paxil 20mg for almost a year, it seemed to help my depression but if I was even a half day off from taking it I would feel really panicked. I stopped taking paxil about 4 months ago due to nausea, vivid nightmares, weight gain, and non existing sex drive. I had some trouble getting off this med, I slowly skipped days till I wasn't taking it anymore. I can tell I need to be on some sort of med but I haven't found anyone that have had success stories from any meds unless they are taking more than one kind.

I'm on effexor xr....worked like a charm for me except for the fact that I swung up to mania and have had hypomanic and mixed episodes ever since being on it these past 6 years. There are very many antidepressants out there, are you bi polar or unipolar?

My Dr says I'm bipolar but I just feel depressed all the time, I never feel over excited.

The Dr said bipolar, but since I was 12 I've suffered only severe depression, I can't remember having overly exciting moments since 12, or being happy for that matter, I am now 21.

I too have recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorer (type 1) by multiple psychiatrists. I am 20 years of age and can relate to you with never feeling up whatsoever. I have had chronic depression from around the time of my early teen years.

The only manic episode I have had was induced from an anti depressant and put me in the emergency psychiatric center. Since then I have tried lamictal (lamotrigine), ativan, lithium, and trazadone. I hated the side effects from both the lamotrigine and lithium so I stopped taking those.

The only thing I am still taking is trazadone to help me fall asleep.

I really have no felt great since I can remember and have questioned my diagnosis many times. It seems that it is most likely correct due to family members sharing the mental illness genes, but I still haven't found a medication that works. I find it really hard to juggle finding a med while going to college.

Let me know if you find anything that works and i'll do the same.

Wellbutrin works really well for depression, for me at least. I would say i was about 80 percent depression and 20 percent hypo mania (mostly med induced hypomania's though). But the wellbutrin really took the depression away. I am also on topomax wich actually has weight loss as a side effect and is a mood stabilizer but used for alot of other things. I have had 0 side effects and been stable and actually happy and functioning since starting them. Something to consider maybe?

I will try this out, every other med I've read about on here either don't work or have 100 side effects.
