Good morning Bipolar family~ I hope you are all well today, ((( soft hugs ))) to those who might need them.

I was just sitiing outside having my morning coffee, thinking geez it's sure cold out here, frost on all the roof tops and grass. Very grey skies, it looks like it could almost snow and I think I could almost smell the snow flakes in the air. I love the first snowfall
I have hot yoga tonight, which I am so excited for. I only got in one day last week but it has been keeping me going forward.

Anyways I was sitting out in the freezing cold in my jammies and thinking " I wonder what the weather is like right now for my PC friends, and I wonder what they are getting up to today?"
So a little check in thread I thought would be nice for us today. I wish you all well.....

A gorgeous day in the bay area, cool with deep blue skies and puffy white clouds. Brisk breeze from the water. Sea birds happy so I'm guessing no rain! s to all.

It's overcast in Central New York (no shock there, we parallel the Pacific Northwest for gray weather!) but it's a comfortable 59F and there's no threat of rain. So, pretty much as nice as we can ask for in this area at the start of November!

Yesterday it was gorgeously sunny, so my hubby and I went out hiking. I took a wrong turn that extended our hike by 6 miles, but we both agreed that it was fun nonetheless.

Good morning Anika I'm doing all right. It's in the low 70s. Overcast and trying to decide if it wants to rain or not. I'm out of the house for the first time in weeks running errands. I have rehearsal tonight, so I think I'm going to spend the afternoon writing. I hope everyone is well

I'm here on the east coast of MA, sitting at my laptop and looking out at the beautiful day. It's 57 degrees and is supposed to warm up considerably soon; at least 70 degrees in Boston later this week. This is another instance of weather gone wild. Unbelievable temperatures for early November. I'm not complaining. (As I rarely leave the house anyway, it doesn't make any difference to me.) BTW, our clocks were just set back. It gets dark an hour earlier now. Sunset was at 4:32 last night. Acccckkkkk!!!!!!

Grey, our clocks were just changed a few days ago, soon it will be dark by 4 pm ugggh!!! But as soon as the snow comes it will light up the skies, until then I guess I will make sure I do my daily "walking grocery trip" before four.
Thanks for this!

Please d0n't think me stupid, but i have to ask... I used to work for a USA based company, and learned about dailylight saving time, and thus, showing up for work an hour early. We don't do that here in Cape Town SA, and n0ne of my colleagues could effectively explain this strategy to me... Could some0ne please enlighten me? Is there a specific time of the year this gets done, and what does it actually achieve. Sunrise here is anytime between 5am and 7am and sunset fr0m 5pm to 7:30 pm ( roughly) depending on season. So we haven't had to adjust clocks ( i'm guessing) SO sorry if I c0me accross as ignorant but i'd REALLY like to know...

Trippin, daylight savings time is a way to stretch more daylight into the summer days. Making it appear as if the sun is rising an hour later and setting and hour later, making the daylight hours seem longer. Because the sun rises so early in the summer this seemed a good way to stretch the daylight hours longer. Really it's sort of a pain in the bum, especially when November comes and you have to " loose" an hour, or so it seems.
In Canada it starts in March and ends in November. But this changes in different locations. And I believe the northern hemisphere is different then the southern hemisphere. I dunno it still confuses me.
I hope that helped

Trippin, part of the rationale for doing "daylight savings time" is that if people are active during daylight hours, then you save resources that would otherwise be spent on lighting office buildings, etc. So instead of just adjusting the hours when we do things, working 8 AM to 4 PM instead of 9 AM to 5 PM, we just adjust the clocks.

Of course, instead the cost of darkness becomes a personal expenditure since we light our homes instead, but that's a much smaller expenditure than large facilities. Until last year, the time change period was actually shorter, but there was a federal bill in the US to extend daylight savings time with the notion that it would help save lots of money by reducing the amount of electricity use.

Check! Overcast here in the Pacific Northwest today too, lol. We're about 10 degrees cooler. Cloudy, cool... imo, pretty well perfect.

Thanks AniManiac for the daylight savings thing. I couldn't remember till you said it. I also seem to remember a side benefit being that kids out waiting for the bus were less likely to be doing so in the dark.

I'm so happy for you!

Man, that's one of the main things I miss here, the smell of that first snow....

Believe it or not, there was also sort of a subtext, economic rationale for the DST extension. President Bush thought that if people had more daylight hours after the workday, they would be more apt to stay active and go shopping after work.

Not everyone likes the new change. I personally love it. Yes, it's pretty dark in the mornings come the end of October, but to have the later daylight hours in March is really a welcome sight after a long, dark, northern winter. I know Australia also changes their clocks, so I don't think it's just a northern thing.

It's just freezing here and no snow yet. Saw posters inviting peeps to xmas markets (they start at end of November) and I cannot wait. Gonna take my chinese friend and we are gonna have A LOT of hot wine and special sweets made over the coals (I have no idea how you call it in English... it's trdelník in Czech).

Venus it just snowed again here today, and it's not melting this time. That sounds like a really good time we have a Xmas celebration downtown next weekend. Will be lots of activities, horse drawn sleighs, marshmallow roasting on a huge bonfire in the middle of the main intersection, mostly alot of stuff for kids, but it's fun, I'm excited. Oh and Santa is there as well. Have fun at your festivities!

I wish there was hot wine at ours!! Not fair
Thanks for this!

Oh, the hot wine! I got to go to the Marché Noël in Paris one year and the hot wine was so delicious, such a lovely winter treat! I wish we had that here, but no such luck. Drink some hot wine for me!

Anika,

Thank you for the hug I needed it especially a gentle one, I'm still getting over a horrible family get-together yesterday with my "family of origin", lots of yelling and arguing. I just tried to stay out of it.

Anyway its chilly and cloudy here and I have a cold so I'm taking it easy- no phone calls, been resting on the couch and drinking lots of fluids also checking in on here every so often.

Have a great evening everyone.

By the way Anika I like your avitar, its so cute, it reminds me of someone in a story book my mom read to me when I was a little person.

Venus, by "over the coals" do you mean sitting by the fire drinking your wine & eating your sweets or do you mean heating your wine over the coals & making/cooking your sweets over the coals??

The differences between languages is so interesting.
