I have been taking Lunesta for insomnia for a while now. I was taking 2mg then it was raised to 3mg and finally 4mg. It worked at the 3mg level for several months and then stopped. My dose was raised to 4mg and it worked for several more months then it suddenly stopped about 5 weeks ago. I talked to my PDoc today and she said that 4mg was the max dosage for Lunesta. She prescribed Temazapam 15mg (can take 2 if needed) today to replace the Lunesta. Anyone familiar with this med?

Another thing I wanted to ask about is using more than one med in the same family/class. I am also taking clonazapam for panic attacks. Can you take more than one benzodiazepine at the same time? I am reading that this is not good to do.

I was taking it for sleep on an as-needed basis for a little while and it worked pretty well for me - didn't leave me horribly groggy in the mornings which is a huge plus.

I haven't taken more than one benzo at a time, however, so unfortunately there is little I can tell you in that regard.

I use Restoril. It helps turn the volume down on my brain at night. I don't take anything else either, so I don't have info on that. I don't feel groggy in the morning, just more rested.

I have tried it in the past hasnt really been helpful for me tho

I currently take 2 benzios at once but this was only after my doctor and i tried many combos ... Its certainly not a safe thing to do without a doctors order .. it would all depend on the med and the doseage etc ..\

Please contact your Pdoc and get his/her approval.

Good luck and be safe

I have been taking temazepam 30-60mg since 2007. I also take xanax 2-3mg to help me sleep as well as clozapine, selegiline and neurontin for bipolar.

I had some episodes when I would awaken in the night and was unable to talk or walk. My eeg and mri were okay so we considered perhaps it was the meds and I stopped taking the temazepam for a couple years. I have recently started the temazepam again but only at 30mg and so far no side effects.

My PDoc told me, when suggesting this med, that it was in the same class as the clonazapam that I am taking. I asked her if she planned on having me stop taking it. I did not know that taking these two together could possibly be a problem. I wanted to make sure she knew I was taking the clonazapam for nighttime panic attacks. She said she did not plan on having me stop the clonazapam at this time.

both sleeping pill and diazapams are both addicting and will at somepoint not work for you because you have become tolerant. It's actually not a good idea to use either regularly (daily). After so long your body becomes acalamted (sp) to them and they stop working. My personal experience with sleeping pills is to use them only on days you have to functions, days that are just lazy days - dont take them, if you dont sleep much you can always nap during the day. As for benzo's you can take several different type. Some have longer effects than others, so maybe a long acting one daily and then short acting one for emergency use. thats what I do. it helps me. Talk to your doctor about all this. Good luck and sleep tight :-)

More than one benzo isn't really a problem. The only issue, physically, is to make sure your kidneys, liver and lungs are functioning well. If you have shortness of breath or impaired urination, be sure to tell the doc or pdoc. Some benzos can be respiratory depressants in some people, so if you start having sleep apnea, report it. (Don't ya love nursing school?!)

Never have been able to nap. As a kid even a 20 minute nap would keep me up all night. I guess as a result of that I can not nap. As far as taking them only on lazy days or only when needed, I do not have those days. I go for up to a week at a time getting anywhere form 0 to 3 hours of sleep per night then I crash for a night and get about 6 hours of sleep. Then it starts again. No daytime sleepiness ... only effects are fogginess or mental slowdown.

I have not noticed a groggy feeling. I am getting light shock sensations.

The 1st night I took only one Restoril as my PDoc recommended. It did not act quickly. I yawned a lot but still no sleep till about 3:30 am and woke up alert at at 7 am. Wondering if Restoril is supposed to be fast acting and/or long acting. I thought I had read that it was supposed to be both.

My PDoc told me to take two on the 2nd night if one did not seem to work. So last night at about 9 pm I took two Restoril. I did not sleep at all. Even the yawns were not there.

This might have been my fault. I fell asleep at about 4:30 pm yesterday and slept till about 5:30 pm. I never have been able to take a nap during the day and sleep that night.
