I'm about to start Latuda 40 mg./1x day. I have very treatment-resistant BP. Atypical antipsychotics did not work in the past and I had the typical side effects.

Since Latuda is new and I am getting it off-label for BP, I wondered if anyone else that was BPII was taking this? How is it working? Have you had any problems with it?

Thanks - I am actually embracing a new opportunity to get new help. But I have many mental and physical problems hitting together, so this does concern me. Thanks!
Thanks for this!

I've never heard of Latuda, but I do wish you the best of luck with the new medication.

What is Latuda? I never heard of it either.

Is it something new for BP2?

Ladyjrnlist, what is it used for. Is it an antipsychotic, antidepressant or a mood stablizer like an anticonvulisve?

Thanks all for replying.

I should have elaborated....Latuda is a atypical anti-psychotic that came out in October for treating Schzophrenia. My pdoc is giving it to me off-lable to treat my BPII. That's why I am asking for any experiences from BP's taking it.

I couldn't take Zyperxa (which Latuda is similar to) or Abilify either. Side effects + they just didn't work. So I am hoping the usual Atypical Antipsychiotic side-effects will be less. Being a diabetic still complicates things.

I am interested in this, I'm going to research it, and ask my pdoc about it. I'm on a cocktail right now that seems to be working, and I don't really want to mess with it, but I can't help wondering if there is something more simple out there than what I'm doing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latuda

According to the wiki, it has less cognitive impairment side effects, which would be good for me since my memory is significantly worse now, and even less weight gain than the other atypicals. I'm actually a bit excited about it.

Thanks for the heads-up on the new med!

My Pdoc has that lined up as the med to put me on if my seasonal depression gets bad this year. I don't sleep on abilify and gained WAY too much weight on Zyprexa. I will be curious to hear your experience.

If you are still looking for info I've been on it for two weeks and it's the best med I've ever taken. I was on Zyprexa, Lamotrigine, and Vyvance before and they did their job but there were far to many side effects. I was always sleepy, I was very dull, all of the spark of my personality was gone. Now that I'm on Latuda I still have my spark and I'm sleeping perfectly, I wake up and I'm ready to go, no residual grogginess. I had a mental break down last week and I was able to control myself within minutes. It was at a friend's house and in the past police have been called when it happens at a friend's place. This time I was able to calm down fast enough that his parents had no idea what happened and his sister just thought I had an allergy attack. So far I haven't found a single thing wrong with this med.

Well, I'm not BPII but I am using it to treat psychosis. It's helping with my moods and it's eliminated my psychosis completely. I have to say, it's one of my favorite medications I've ever taken. I hope it works for you!
