So yeah it's 2 am and I can't sleep. I've been having a manic episode for a little over two weeks now. I have surgery in the morning and I'm just wondering if I'm going to crash into a depressive episode after this. Anyone have mood swings after surgery?

Ok. Guess I'll find out on my own. Only 7 hours left.

It's really common for anyone to crash into a depression after a GA. I'm not BP but have always done so. I ususally warn the doctor before hand

Hope all goes well for you

Anesthetics could also influence things since it's another set of chemicals in your body. You should let the staff know in advance so they can be ready in case you need any extra support. And of course, they do know about any meds you're taking, right?

I have no known drug allergies, but actually have problems with some dental anesthetics. It turns out that epinephrine is commonly added to local anesthetics and that triggers a panic attack. The epinephrine is intended to reduce bleeding, so I had some problematic oral surgery procedures because if they gave me epinephrine it would put my body into shock and then I'd black out.

But most of the time, people handle anesthetics pretty well. Just make sure that your team knows as much as possible to make sure you get the best treatment you can!

I have had about 10 or more surgeries and, after not sleeping, I am so grateful for the anethesia because it helps me get some sleep after surgery.

I agree with Sunangel. I never cared that I coudn't sleep or that I had to get up early for surgery since I'd be knocked out and then could sleep as needed afterward. I wouldn't think that they would cause mania or depression but since you've already gone through surgery by now, I'll keep my fingers crossed that all is well.
