Made it back again. Nothing too over the top to share this week. The lady friend came down for the weekend. It was very relaxing. I took her to see the sights around and to a few of the local watering holes I frequent.

Still kicking around this whole rehab idea. Still know that it will just not fit into my life, schedule, or finances, though I did read the employee manual.
It says it encourages employees with dependency issues to seek voluntary rehabilitation programs and may even help cover the cost if it fits under the extended illness guidelines. The only issue I see with that is it has to be an illness that affects your ability to perform your work, which my alcoholism has not.

So for now I'm just living life as I have been and keeping a "drinking log" like they told me told. I'm really interested to see what all those tests they ran come back saying.

But enough about me. Hope everyone out there is doing well

Tonight: What is your highest completed schooling and was it a struggle to get there?

Me: Bachelors of Science Degree from Penn State University.
Yes It was always a struggle especially after they drugged me up

I am doing well! I hope you're taking care of yourself. Glad to hear you're starting a log, that's a step forward.

As for your question, I have a bachelor's degree in music education with vocal emphasis from Texas A&M University.
First semester was easy, second I was manic for the first time ever, and it kind of went downhill from there (literally in a few instances, ha ha). There were a few semesters where the only classes I showed up to were the ones I needed to keep my scholarships. Seriously, I have no idea how I passed half my classes.

Good to hear from you, miner!

Answer: Associates of Applied Science
It was not a struggle. Graduated #1.

Of course then, neither was College Round One! Ding! (Say it like in boxing...). University, actually. Till a massive depression hit year 3 and I dropped out and derailed.

Haha, since I've been to college 3 times (about a decade apart each), I think of it like a boxing match.
Round One! Knock out. Ding!
Round Two! Came out on top! Ding!
Round Three! Went nearly the whole round, but then couldn't be bothered! Ding!
(It was an art field, and the degree had no use for what I was going to do with it. Besides, 2 associates do not a bachelors make! )

None were a challenge. It was trying to dodge depressions. The biggies anyway. Timing. It was all in timing.

Just say it affects your work! That sounds like great coverage. It's a long road - make the first step...

I drank myself silly & remained high functioning till I was 35, then did a 6-wk rehab. Got a PhD in Philosophy & Theatre Arts. It was work, but fun too. Had an incredible faculty committee from several departments who hadn't known each other before but all drank & we just clicked. It was an amazing experience.

Hi ManicMiner. I've got 92 hours of college but no associates. Yes it was difficult because I did it in the military, moving every 3 or so years.

Have you considered AA? Not to preach or anything but I got sober there. Been clean and sober for over 3 years. Life is so much better without the booze. Good luck whatever you decide.

Highest completed degree is an MS in Information (specializing in...information...) and it was hard, but not the struggle that my BA in math was, mostly because I was being treated for ADHD (and was hypomanic pretty much the whole time!)

Give me a few more months, though, and I should have that PhD in Information Science & Technology all wrapped up...

I have a BSN (Nursing), also from Penn State. I had to take a year off to finish due to med adjustments and another hospitalization. But, I did it!!

Travel and Tourism, Hospitality Business Management and Computer Applications. And Hair stylist Colour technician. Nothing really elaborate. The travel and tourism and business diplomas were hard for me. I took accelerated programs and the homework and pace was alot for a single mother, I was manic for nine months straight during this. I did get a 4.0 grade average and perfect attendance. That which I am proud of for myself as I dont always have a ton of follow through.

Sadly I was placed on permanent disability one year I after I graduated and will likely never use my education. I wanted to own and operate a small Inn. SAD.

Maybe running a B&B will be an option for you someday? It seems like it would be easier than raising kids!

Anyway, don't give up hope - you've already demonstrated that you can achieve a lot despite major challenges.

Now that you mention it, it really wasn't the rehab so much as AA that did it for me. When I was ready. That was the Open Sesame to sobriety for me.

Ani, maybe . I have the perfect buildings picked out. I actually went there and took photos and photo shopped my sister and myself into the picture hammering in the grand opening sign. Haha I dunno but I am a believer in visualizing what you want and receiving. When I have enough belief that is. Maybe when my kids are grown?

BS in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of New Hampshire. It was tough to get through at times, especially during the clinical rotations in the last six months, but I did it. I'm on disability now, but I was a damn good Medical Technologist when I was able to work.

Re: rehab....do you have any vacation or sick time? Just thinking that 4 on/ 4 off schedule - you could take a block of vacation time and get 12 days to do some sort of program. Longer if possible. I agree with Moose, if they're willing to help you with it, do everything you can to take advantage of that.
