Is being paranoid- like worried or feeling like strangers or co workers are watching you & not wanting to go out because of it..or constant fear of the worst happening ..part of bipolar, anxiety or something else? Has anyone dealt with anything like this?

Anxiety is very common with BP. If nothing else, other symptoms and trying to manage them is enough to make us anxious!

Paranoia is a type of delusion but also a BP symptom; not as common but not rare either. It is currently one of the criteria for a BP I dx, though who knows what will happen with the next version of the DSM...

Definitely take Miss Laura's suggestion to mention this to your docs. There may be meds that can help, and if you see a therapist, they can probably help you work on some strategies for paranoia and anxiety.

You're definitely not alone in this!

Dear HopeLost,

Before I begin, hope is never lost! In any event, I have experienced mild forms of paranoia in the past--at times still do--and I can attest that it is definitely part of the illness. Mention it to your doctor; there are fantastic meds out there which can directly address the issue. Lamictal, at the appropriate dose, is one of them.

Good luck!

Hi HopeLost,

I have felt exactly as you describe - feeling like everyone was watching me when I went outside. I believed that they were, but of course they were not. I would class this as delusion/paranoia.

Fear of the worst happening I would call 'anxiety' rather than 'paranoia'.

Yes, it's all definitely part of this condition.

I hope that you are doing OK,

BB

Thank you all. I am tired of feeling this way . It has gone from anxiety with friends & acquaintances to the feeling of total strangers watching. Its this horrible energy!
I have mentioned it to docs, just not sure what next step is. It looks like I get to see pdOc in program tomorrow. Day 3 of iop.
