I had to go to my dr. for a glucose tolerance test and an ultrasound of my liver today due to some pretty elevated test results. The tech and I were talking about different things--kids and Dave Ramsey, mainly--and he suddenly looks at me and goes, "Do you have a lisp?" First, you don't ask someone that even if it is obvious. It's rude and insensitive. Second, it's from the Seroquel. It is messing with my speech a bit but nothing major. That is none of his business. Third, it was totally unprofessional of him. Fourth, I grew up with a severe speech problem. I have a MAJOR problem with someone pointing out that someone's speech doesn't sound normal to them. I so badly wanted to just blow up at him and tell him what a jerk he is. I guess you could say I really wanted to go bipolar on him!

Yikes, that's awful. I cannot believe he did that to you. You know you can report him if you so choose.

Maybe there was a medical reason he needed to ask. For example if you were getting a test for diabetes also, that would be in the chart, and slurred speech can mean a reaction.

lad007, I did not know that. If that was the case though, wouldn't the polite thing to do be to explain it. You know, "The reason I ask is..."

He said it was because his two youngest were tounge tied and it sounded like I am. He was wondering how old I was when I had surgery. If he had told me there was a medical reason for asking I wouldn't have minded. At first I thought maybe he was going to tell me he was asking for that question.
