And do you suffer more from mania or depression? I'm an introvert, and I'm depressed far more often than I am hypomanic.

I'm curious to see if there is a correlation between this aspect of personality and the way bipolar presents itself among my friends here on this board. Yes, I know that this is not a real scientific investigation. But it's fun.

During my teens to 2009... Mostly hypomanic and definitly extroverted.

End of 2009 - present: mostly depressed and introverted.

I keep hoping that my cycles will switch back to the way they were before my dad and brother died.

I am an introvert and I was far more often depressed than hypomanic. I have been very stable for the last year, but still introverted. Thank God for Lamictal!

During my childhood and teen years, I was an introvert, basically suffering from depression.

Now, I am a 100% extrovert. I am on the manic side almost always now so it helps me.

My pdoc told me last week that she looks forward to seeing me because I have such interesting things to say all the time.

She also told me that it takes an artist to keep up with me because I go from subject to subject and she has to really concentrate on what I am saying.

I'm an introvert, though I'm social. I had a really bad, paralyzing depression and then an off-the wall, bipolar 1 mania.

People think I am an extrovert because I am so outgoing, and generally my hypo-mania takes over in social settings, so I can converse with anyone.
Really though, I am a loner. I like to go in the middle of crowds and be completely alone, like going to a busy restaurant, but eating by myself and discretely listening to the lives that others are leading, or going to the mall and watching all of the people as they go about their business. I like people, but I don't always want to be a contributing member to the group.

I am an introvert who gets extroverted when I go manic. When I am stable or depressed I am introverted. When I am hypomanic I am introverted as I can't stand to be around people as they annoy the living crap out of me. Everything annoys me to no end when I am hypomanic. Hypo mania is a curse for me. Give me a good manic any day.

I'm mostly introverted but if you start talking to me first I'm more than happy to be friendly and talk. Also--it can depend at what point I'm in where the bipolar is concerned. If I'm manic, I'll talk to a tree if it will listen. If I'm depressed, there are very few people who are going to get me to really talk. For the most part the only people I'll really talk to when I'm like that are my husband, my brother and our priest. They listen without passing judgement--at least not overtly passing judgement, anyway--and they do try to help me.

Me too. Introverted, mainly depressed. When hypomanic it is not necessarily a 100% positive experience as I still avoid others and get very irritated at their slow-ness etc.

I walk the line - half of the time I test introverted, half the time it's extroverted. That part of my behavior is very contextual for me - depends a lot on the social environment.

Natural inclination seems to be more extroverted, though. And mostly depressed. So much for seemingly logical alignments, eh?

Introverted, depressed more often. Because my understanding of introvert/extrovert is not solely defined by sociability, I remain an introvert. It's just that when I'm hypo, I am waaaay more social. A LOT more. But I don't get my energy from contact with others, I'm still supplying my own power grid. Big time. Lol.

Yup, people-watcher here too. I get the converse with anyone thing too (which is so not the norm for me), but in thinking about it... "converse"... yeah, I'm conversing, but I'm not as sure that it's as interactive as it seems. Does that make any sense? I hear and respond, but frankly probably miss a lot in terms of input when the outgo is so overwhelmingly pressing.

So true! Speaking for my own 7 simultaneous stories (all with parenthetical commentary): And if trees had eyes, they'd glaze over. And the tree would curse that it was not able to move.
