I have just been diagnosed with BPII and am still not sure what is going to happen. I am starting on 750 mg of Depakote, anyone have any success/failure with this? Is it worth even bothering? It all seems so tiring.

Yes its worth bothering. Unfortunately medication must be experimented with in order to find what works. Some get lucky and find it right away while others, like me, take years to find it. As I said its worth it because after all that trial and error I'm now very happy and functional.

Welcome to the forum.
It's a challenging journey to come to terms with your diagnosis and find the right meds. I hope it goes quickly and smoothly for you. There is definitely hope, to say different is the depression talking.

Depakote really worked for me, unfortunately it made me gain 80 lbs so I switched to Geodon.

Never tried depakote, but lamictal's working really well for me. If depakote doesn't work, there's lots of other options. Don't give up, you'll find something that works for you eventually.

Thank you for your comments and advice. Am struggling with the down side at the moment, anxious, full of rage, suicidal. Can`t wait for the medicine to kick in and start working. What is the usual dose as I am starting with 750mg but have heard that it may end up be closer to 2000mg?

I was on 2000 mg in the am and 1500 mg at bed time before I decided to change meds. It did work but I couldn't deal with the whole weight gain problem.

Welcome to PC ...Mjtuck

Sorry your have such a hard time .. there are so many options with medications is unreal .. there are weight neutral meds out there .. i think initially most doctors pull out the big guns to try and knock out the depression and bad thoughts first thing THEN you can be a lab rat and try different combos of meds if Depakote doesnt work for you or the side effects are too much ..

Hang in and know things will get better and everyone here is so supportive and helpful ....

Welcome
