Lately I have been so uncomfortable when trying to sit still. I am not comfortable in any position, not even relaxing on the couch. How do I explain this to the pdoc next time? I'm not sure if it is medication, or what, but I continue to exercise, so I feel like I am getting enough activity. I have to constantly move, stretch, and so on. I am not making spastic type movements, I am just uncomfortable, almost achy all over. This has been going on for about three weeks, since my last med change.
Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what was your solution?

Hmmm well I don't know if it's the "same", but I tend to get very physically agitated at times, actually psychomotor agitation. I will usually end up pacing for hours on end because I cannot sit, I cannot do anything for more than a few seconds. Usually I will start pacing and not even realize I am doing it until I've already been at for 10-20 min.

I think you're description here was pretty good Bluemountains. I would just tell your pdoc what you said here. So I dunno, I would think some agitation (of the body, maybe the mind) anxiety, or could be one of your meds. What are you taking for medication? (if you want to say, of coarse you don't have to share)

I take meds for bipolar (zoloft, abilify, klonopin) as well as meds for high bp, high cholesterol, kidney disease, and hypothyroidism.

Abilify is well known for causing restlessness, or Akathisia. There are meds that they can use to treat this if that is the cause. yes, more meds yippie!

Akathisia is a syndrome characterized by unpleasant sensations of inner restlessness that manifests itself with an inability to sit still or remain motionless. It can be a side effect of medications, mainly neuroleptic antipsychotics.

Worth bringing up to your pdoc.
Thanks for this!

Abilify does cause this problem for man people. I don't think it's hypomania, but Akathesia like was said in this reply. If you are very uncomfortable and cannot keep still, tell your pdoc. It is a very uncomfortable feeling.

Thanks, Anika! This makes sense because this is exactly what I am feeling. It is very uncomfortable. I'm willing to take more meds in this case. My son is on this med, too, and I hope he's not feeling like this because he probably would know how to verbalize it.

With that kind of correlation, I'd sure cast a suspicious eye at a med as the cause. I think these guys are on to something with it being a med side effect of akathisia and not hypomania. Have you had a chance to put in a call to your Pdoc yet?

Personal experience? Yes. But only once on account of a med. It was awful. Such a big effect that after only one dose, I discontinued. So I guess that was my solution(!) With a call to psych though.
It's a sucky feeling. Let us know how it goes, ok?

To be honest, what you're describing does sound like akathisia and it's probably Abilify causing it. I was on 20mg of it at one point and was constantly uncomfortable and had to keep moving all the time just like you describe. I'm at half the dose I was before and the worst I have to deal with now is that my feet will occasionally bounce in place and shake my desk when I'm sitting down. It's definitely worth looking into meds as the cause.
