So there's a couple of things going on that are sucking the air out of everything else positive going on.

I recently finished school in my 40's, and my new career is going great, really happy with all the progress there. I know there are people there who want to see me succeed because they see my work ethic and the fact that I want to be there and help out. I'm not perfect or try to be, but I work damn hard.

But, I'm not as happy as I should be, in fact, I'm not happy at all. It doesn't show on the outside, but on the inside I'm quite sad.

I found out the organization that hosts support groups in my area doesn't exist any more. (long story as to why) I find myself thinking about where I can get help if I need it? It's leaving me a little lost.

Also, I'm looking at the number of people who have distanced themselves from me, leaving me wondering what I am doing wrong. This year has been tough, and something I've gone through before. The more I improve and pull myself out of a rut, the more people I've gotten to know keep away from me. All of a sudden they are always busy. Sigh.

Congratulations on getting through school and starting your new career. That's wonderful. I can't imagine why these people are pulling away from you and you'll probably not know either unless you ask. Jealousy? Different stages of life?

I'm sorry there are no more support groups in your area. What about a therapist? I wish you the very best.

Dear "BadNews,"
Your post actually holds a lot of "good news!"

Congrats on school and your career success.

As for friends, I'd suggest gently asking them why there seems to be distance. You cannot know the answer without asking. If I were a friend, I'd want to be asked about that; I'd want no assumptions made. Friends talk about such topics with one another.

Maybe you'll find other support groups nearby?
Jennifer had mentioned a therapist. Is this a possibility?

For what it's worth, I think you are jamming yourself up on some level by assigning yourself the screen name of "BadNews?"

The screen name is based on a pro wrestling character. There isn't some sort of a message behind the name.

A therapist is a possibility. I know that when I was in school, I was visiting a counsellor once a week which helped me out tremendously and gave me a good boost of confidence. I do respond better in a group setting though. Maybe I do need another perspective, or kick in the but.
