I feel sort of silly asking this, but I am not sure if it is related to bipolar and I am just trying to figure it out. When I am just thinking, in general, I will think of a phrase and my mind automatically starts repeating a song that has the same phrase, over and over, and over again. Then I will think of something else that will put another song in my head that I can't make stop. Has anyone ever experienced this? Does this even make sense? Thanks.

Yes, post makes sense. Have experienced, yes. All the time there are songs in my head. Lots of repetition. Can't see how it'd be anything BP related.
I think songs in people's heads are very common. The over and over and over thing might have a whiff of OCD trait about it, but even so, a trait does not a disorder make. And.... still, I don't even think it's that, though that is my personal opinion (I do have OCD). Not being able to make it stop... well..while I can see how that might seem so too... But everyone gets songs stuck in their heads (alas, so often annoying ones, lol!) I wouldn't worry about this (in case you are, not sure). |

Yep, my brain does this too. It can get awfully musical at times, with all those songs running in there, one after another. It's not an everyday thing, so I'm guessing it's fairly normal. If it were to be constant, I'd say it's a bp-mania thing.

For me, music in my head is a symptom of psychosis. Stress is a big trigger for me which creates constant music in my head. And the more stressed I get the louder the music becomes. It can be so loud it's almost deafening. Antipsychotics have helped turn the volume way down as well as alleviating it's consistancy.

I once heard music OUTSIDE my head. It was as if I was playing a recording. The rest of the times are ear worms. I think its important to distinguish the difference.

This! I'll get a few words of a song going around and around and around until I never want to hear it again. Generally songs on tv ads do it! Then i'll find myself randomly singing songs out loud that I didn't even realise i'd heard/had in my head lol.

I get songs stuck in my head like most other people. I think this is probably normal and nothing to worry about. The ones that worry me are the ones that mean something and just won't go away. Two particular songs were very meaningful to a relationship I was in that just ended, and I frequently get them stuck in my head for what seems like hours. I think this is probably my OCD kicking in. Don't think it is a big enough problem to change meds for, but I should probably talk to my therapist about it.
