Two of the many strange things I thought of at dinner. It's really annoying and I'm not sure how to combat the strange thinking and the manic behavior.

What are some of the strangest things you've thought of while manic/depressed?

Start at the middle, then get so excited you jump right to the end before going back to the beginning, then by the time you get halfway through it you find yourself too depressed to go any further.

That's how I'd do it in my state right now.

During my last manic episode I wanted to become a ballet dancer. I only weighed about 210 at the time...

Your title is like a line from a poem. I would say not to stop the thoughts, but to write them down. As long as they aren't dangerous, I don't see why you couldn't use the creativity.

Possible trigger alert

The last time I was manic, I decided that I would live my purpose on Earth if I were to die. By my dying, I would be spreading some type of messsage for the whole of humanity.

Fortunately, I wrote everything down, showed it to my T who told me that I should go the the hospital.

During one hyperreligious mania, I was convinced that God had called me on the phone. The phone rang at like 3 in the morning, but when I picked it up, nobody answered. I truly believed, for like a week, that God had called me on the phone as in one of those hotel "wake up calls".

But definitely start writing some of those thoughts down. They really are poetic.

I never recognized these moments as relating to mania until recently, but there have been lots of times in my life when I've sat there going "moon, spoon, June, tune" and other rhyming words, as many as I can think of, until I'm laughing my *** off at my own silliness. I think they call that "clanging". This is also when I get wildly creative and make up all new lyrics to popular songs, most of which are either funny (to me) or profane, and which I wish I'd get in the habit of writing down so I can remember them.

They do call it that. I do it too. I never thought of it relating to mania (or in my case, hypo), but come to think of it, hmmm, yeah, it probably is, or at least I get going on it more. Way more. It doesn't strike me as strange at the time, so aloud I go, eager to share its hilarity. Which... apparently does not receive the anticipated reaction, but I'm too busy going off on it to notice for sure. (I do notice reaction a bit more when it's aloud seemingly random --but not to me -- thoughts strung together. I figure they're stupid and just can't keep up. )

As for "broccoli is my homeboy and I want to marry my black bean burger"? I sure wouldn't worry about going to the hospital over that! Lol. It's just funny. Agree with the others. Write it down. I know someone that writes down all kinds of funny things that people say or come out amusingly mixed up, and it provides much hilarity when read again later. It's too easy to forget them otherwise.

How about this:

Broccoli Is My Homeboy and I Want to Marry My Black Bean Burger: A Memoir

I think it has a nice ring to it! You might be on to something here!

People with certain mental illnesses tend to be more creative/artistic than others, which can also be their downfall. Right now I have been into designing and decorating my future apartment, but I have always been writing parodies and saying funny things. I have won several young writer's awards and was always very strong with my creative writing.

It's one of those things where people with mental illnesses are more creative, but people who are creative do not necessarily have mental illnesses.

Oh I do that too!! Rhyme all sorts of words and mix up lyrics to popular songs which normally gets my best friend in fits of laughter. Also come up with completely random stories and people think I have a crazy imagination. Thing is these stories just flow naturally lol even if they make no particular sense.
