I have a very difficult time listening to Beth by Kiss because it was playing when my friend was killed by a car. I start to freak out everytime I hear it, so if I ever hear it now, I will am triggered.
Also, other songs that were popular then are very difficult to listen to and always trigger me badly.

Love songs tend to trigger me. Because before he raped me he promised me forever.
Also, Happy Ending by SugarLand. Good song before, but now I can't listen to it.

Another song I heard that triggers me is The House that Built Me, by Miranda Lambert. I don't care for country songs, but I heard this one and started to cry. It made me miss my parents and the home I grew up in.
So freakin' difficult.

That song triggered me for a bit too! Although it had to do with the death of the relationship rather than the death of a loved one.

I can't list to "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton or "My Immortal" by Evenesence. Both are beautiful songs but they make me think too much about my mom and I just start crying uncontrolably. Even my husband knows to change the station on the radio if either song comes on.

I cannot post it here because of the curse words in it, but I want to encourage you all to listen to You Don't Know, by Reel Big Fish. It's something I want to say to the people who just don't get BP disorder and don't know what we go through.
It is an awesome song too. It puts into words what I'd like to tell those people who just don't get it. Let me know if you look it up on youtube and what you think about it.

Any of Mazzy Star's songs. Beautiful sure, however if I wanted to feel instantly depressed and suicidal that is what I would put on, hmm I never want to feel like that.
My bf also knows not to play that around me, the change in my mood is instantaneous. |

I know it's counter productive, but sometimes when I'm sad I play all my sad songs and make myself feel even worse. It's a habit I'm trying to break.

Right now it's anything that reminds me of my girlfriend from the affair I'm trying to get past. Our songs were "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum and "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri. I threw out both of those CDs as soon as I learned about the breakup, and I avoid listening to the radio to I won't have to hear them.
I've always liked sad love songs - broken hearts, lost loves, what might have been, etc but I finally had to take a CD by one of my favorite country artists out of my rotation in my car CD changer. "Do You Wish It Was Me" by Jason Aldean just rips my heart out, but I can't stop listening to it. The lines that kill me are: I know that you did What you thought you should do It was safe and secure So completely thought through But you sacrificed passion And abandoned your dreams Baby was it all worth it Or do you wish it was me. Hits me really hard because I know she's not happy, when my only wish for her is that she finally find peace and happiness even though I know it can't be with me. One of my favorite artists, great CD with some other really good songs on it, but if I have it in the changer I can't keep from playing "Do You Wish It Was Me" over and over. Had to take it out to keep from driving myself insane. |

I don't think it is counter productive. Negative feelings are normal part of life. Sad songs are cathartic.

When I'm in a really bad mixed state I can't even listen to music. It agitates me to no end. And i love music.

I agree with the Mazzy Star songs. Those can bring me down. For a long time songs that reminded me of my ex used to really trigger me. They were:
My Favorite Mistake - Sherly Crow With or Without You - U2 Scary huh? The lyrics are worse! I can't listen to those songs without bringing myself to a dark place. Some wounds can never be healed it seems
