My pdoc has mentioned several times in passing how hard April and march is for bipolar people. Something about it. Would you agree in your experience??

I had a very VERY rough time in March and April, but I don't think my opinion counts toward your question. I went from a manic high straight down to suicidal depression, but that was easily traced to a series of disasters in my personal life. Don't know that I can blame that on the season itself.

I find that the Fall is when I tend to get depressed. I think it's probably because of the shorter days and less sunshine here in New England.

There's definitely a seasonal component to my BP. Late spring and summer are my high-energy times, though I tend to get dysphoric in the latter half of summer. Fall is pretty good, but winter........not so much. This past one was the worst of my entire life (when I had my first mixed episode). Not sure I can take many like that.

April the cruelest month!!! T.S.Eliot was right...My March is not better either though. Usually the actual start of it all is late February...When the days start getting longer. Both times I had to take time off uni have been Spring terms.

I was never certain whether a bad April was related to seasons or final exams. I do know that seasonal changes affect my moods though.

I believe there is something to that. I used to say that I am like a bear hibernating in the winter (when depressed) and full of excess energy (manic) when the spring came. I still think there is something to that but now that I'm older and dealing with a disastrous past I feel even more depressed now then I did when I was younger.

Also, I have been tracking my mood swings for a long time and find that I can have depressive episodes in the summer months. These could be the results of months (or weeks) of being manic. So even if the changing seasons has something to do with changes in moods the rubber band effect from extreme depression and/or mania can happen which don't seem to have anything to do with the changing seasons at all.

My doctor told me last week that I am the opposite of most people with bpd as this is usually the time of mania and not the low/depression that I have been going through!

I know that April and May are bad months for me. I am having a terrible time with mania. I am bipolar II so my mania feels like my brain is on fire. No matter how much meds I take I cannot relax. Last night I took two 65 mg Geodon, 1 10mg Ambien, 2 Trazedone (All of these are prescribed and dose okd by Pdoc) and it took me 5 hours to be able to relax and sleep. It is so frustrating! That amount of meds should kill a horse! I am afraid of overdosing some night because I need to shut down my mind! Have appt on Wednesday to see Pdoc. My husband (who is my lifeline) will attend the appointment with me. I think he is wearing down. He is so worried about me and works hard as a teacher. I feel so guilty! I would never kill myself but how can I get better. I am thinking about voluntary hospital admission. I send many hugs out to everyone. I know I am just having a bad month. I will get better in the Summer, my best time!
Hugs from:

Do any of you have allergies?

Sometimes I think when my allergies are the worst, they correspond to my mood. (Either being more elevated or lowered)

Maybe there is sun and allergy components?

Welcome Dakota and Zedehich!

I find I have definite patterns of depression with seasons. I get my winter depression like clockwork, and my spring hypomania as the sun comes back and the days grow warmer. April was a hypomanic month for me, I bounced up and down like a yo-yo, but hopefully it is evening out. Summer is also my best time, with the long days and sunshine.

May is really when things start to be bad for me. But my very worst times are August through December. Every year I get writen up at work between August and December, gee, I wonder why? It's annoying... If you keep a graph on me, I bet it is really obvious. If they could hook my brain up to a monitor that follows me around, I bet it would look like an earth quake chart.
