Hello everyone!

I just came from a very good session with my T and we discussed my night activities. Recently I finished school, and I haven't had a reason to get up in the morning so I have been feeling kind of lost. Days and nights are blending together and I stay up all night until the wee hours of the morning.

Truth is. I have always loved the night. I live for it. I remember being young (12) and living in Brooklyn and sneaking out at like 3am to walk the streets. Mind you, that was very foolish and very unsafe but I wasn't the least bit frightened. I embraced it and I loved it. As I got older, my safe haven was the beach at night looking at the big bright moon or walking the streets of Manhattan late in the evening when all the 9 to 5ers have gone home.

My T told me this isn't the first time he has heard this. He said that more and more people who have bipolar have said they enjoy the night and relish in it. I get immersed in the absolute quiet, the smells the sounds the peace it brings. And I was wondering, does anyone else feel the same way?

What are views on "the night?"

As much as I love me some vitamin D during the day, I'm in my element at night, it makes me feel alive, safe and aware... I've been a night owl since age 14

Yeah, I do tend to do my best work at night, and I love the dark. I usually keep my room dimmed when I'm awake, if there's no sunlight coming in (like where I'm living right now).

Oh yes, night. It's the best!!! Most energy, generally the best mood that day (as in 24 hours) will bring, mind sharpest, when I'm in my element, work on projects with the most intensity, etc.
And in the summer... no hellish sun!

Yes. I hate mornings with a passion. I'm almost always up all night and sleeping during the day. Its so much quieter and easier for me to deal with than days.

I've been a night owl most of my life, too. I'm forced to teach during the day and be up and functional, but if I had my 'druthers, I'd start the day at about noon! I seem to get my best sleep after 6 a.m. My best working years were the ones where I got to work the 4p.m. to midnight shift in a teen group home. My only wish was that the rest of the world wasn't shut down when I got off work, LOL.

Except for the fact that right now I have a new baby so I'm always exhausted, I'm actually a night person.

My whole life I am groggy and horrible in the morning and become more alert as the day goes on. My best mental activity is between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. I think.

I do, very much.
Seem like a great deal of this Disease they're calling bipolar is actually just a different type of human being that can't find a way to cope in the civilized world we live in. I have always found myself wanting to slow down during the winter months (depression) even if I'm living in the deserts of Arizona. I have always been very active during the spring, being very creative and needing less sleep (manic) and having that can do attitude that my friends and family loved about me. And I have always been drawn to the peacefully quiet night that to me even smells different.
There was a time I described myself as being a nocturnal creature that needs to hibernate. Thanks to society, now I just describe myself as an unwanted misfit, spending most of my time sleeping (when I do sleep) during the day and wanding at night.

I love the nightime too, everybody is asleep; I'm up and dancing and listening to music. I feel very relaxed then, nothing like the day.

I, like the rest of you, enjoy the night....I seem to get alot more done in the evening and seem more like myself (mind you, my bi-polar usually keeps my wanting to sleep all day so this could be the reason)....but when that clock hits about 6pm or so, Im ready to go and get everything done....and I love sitting outside late at night-its so calming....

I could sit on my back porch all night long. I love the night. I am so very at peace when I can do that.

I love the night as well, but I also love the day, they have very different qualities. I cant say which one I like more, I think that depends where my head is at.

Honestly if I had it my way I would never sleep. And I wouldn't have to miss either. I do feel like almost a different person during the days and during the nights. I always wonder what exact affect the moon has on us.

Akira, I wondered about that too. I have always been fascinated by the moon and what it represents and how it affects us.

And Hankster, yes it really DOES smell different like SmokeyPoole2012 said. It seems fresher somehow. I don't know why

I love and hate the night. My T and I had a discussion today about how staying up late is bad for me, even though I enjoy it up to a certain point. But some nights, or if I stay up TOO late, I get severely depressed and lonely and self-injure. Soooo... I have to be careful about it I guess. But it sucks because I love how quiet the night is. When I used to live with my parents, the night was MY time. They were asleep so no yelling in the house. (They fought a lot.) So I relished staying up, except that my dad would tell me if I made any noise after 10pm I would be grounded. I'm sorry, there are a lot of elements to my story and I don't mean to be confusing. Nighttime is my love-hate relationship, perhaps an abusive relationship, it will tell me it wants me, but then it hurts me.

That's how I feel too, thats why I said it depends on where my head is at. Because sometimes nighttime can seem downright dangerous for me. Sometimes it can feel exhilarating, other times it leaves me in despair.

OMG, I've been thinking I have a mild bipolar disorder- and now I read your post and it sounds just like myself. I occasionally still doso- the other day I went for a walk starting at 3am and came back home around 8am. I used to walk at night all the time when I was unemployed in 2009. I know it's not safe and have cut back quite a bit, When I was in college I used to do it a lot more too. I love the quiet of the night, emplty streets, its all so beautiful and peaceful.
