I always forget to eat! I can be hungry and then get distracted and hours will go by.

Sometimes I find myself almost passing out and have to think back, when did I eat last?

Once I passed out, went to a clinic and was made to feel like a total idiot because first thing she asked was, what did you eat today? Uh...oh no! nothing, I had some cola? And yesterday? And I remembered I hadn't eaten in like 2 days! Duh!

So stupid!

Yes all the time, every day. But then again I have anorexia so it's not so unexpected. But my mother, who is a bit overweight also always forgets to eat too. I think it's pretty common. This is why we are not in charge of remembering to breath, we would all be dead.

When I was first getting off cocaine, I had a hell of a time remembering to eat. It's like you basically forget how. I had to pretty much force myself. What helped was setting a little alarm on my phone, so I would know when it was time.

Good idea ManicDad! I'll try that. I've always been this way, no eating disorder, drugs eh, not in years! LOL, except meds. Wellbutrin destroys my desire to eat, it was bad before and now eating is a chore but, Wellbutrin makes me super happy! Haha, I bet it makes me nearly manic sometimes but, that's good!

I'm skinny but, I'd probably be all emaciated if it weren't for the Seroquel munchies. Mmm, Seroquel!

I hate wearing belts or shopping for new pants!

Maybe I should try Zyprexa and get super munchies?

Yes I could have written your post, except can only go one day. After that I faint, which can get embarrassing depending on where you're at, mall, grocery store, ect.

Oh yes. Many days. No ED, just a space cadet. I've never gone an entire day w/o eating though. Nor passed out (light-headed, yes, that's generally the reminder). And when I eat, it can be a real chow down(!) Yum!
Been much hungrier since starting a new job, and I'd already been losing weight (unintentionally), so actively working on maintaining, or it won't be good. Hear you on the belts, cocoabeans -- have had to resort to it lately though. They're a plague and a nuisance.

When I get depressed, I get intensely hungry! That's the only time I remember to eat! Pasta lots and lots of pasta. I sleep and wake up just for pasta!

I have appetite changes with depression; it has occurred in both directions for me. Usually I see an increase, but last time I got depressed I had a decrease and I lost 8 pounds in a month! Unintentionally.

I never really forget to eat, however. When I'm depressed and have no appetite, I remember. I just don't feel like doing it.

I do forget to take my meds. Happens all the time.

All the time! My problem is my meds. They mess with my appetite. I like the idea of setting an alarm to remind me to eat! I have so many alarms set on my phone!

Yup, I forget all the time, especially when I'm hypomanic - I just get so focused on everything else, eating just doesn't come to mind.

When I get focused on something or when I'm really hyper and distracted I can easily go a day before I realize how hungry I am... it's actually kind of like you described, I think to myself that I'm hungry and then I forget about it and don't eat for hours. And when my thoughts are racing through my head sometimes eating a meal turns into something else I get bored with and walk away from, I think "Oh! I need to do this really quickly before I eat!" and the next thing I know it's been 8 hours since I got my food ready.

Haha! I can't even tell you the number of times I've burned foods or even instant noodles getting distracted and walking away. Once I started frying something, got distracted only for my smoke alarm to remind me of a grease fire on the stove top! Oops!

Rule in the home? I don't cook unless someone else is there too or, it is the microwave or pasta lol!

I'm smart though, I swear!

Hey there,

Oh god ye. I forget if I am manic or depressed. When I am manic I just completely miss the time. Not enough hours in the day. When I am depressed I can't be bothered eating and will just miss meals. But then again when I am in one of those moods I will eat junk food like there is no tomorrow.

Both my husband and I have this problem. We'll get in these crazy endless snippy fights, until one of us goes, "Hey, did we eat anything today?".... The answer is usually a sheepish, "No."
it's hard when we both forget. He got used to not eating during his homeless childhood. I got used to not eating with a single mom who just didn't eat...to save $?
We haven't figured out exactly how to fix this starvation "habit" , but we try to remind each other, feed the other whenever we feed ourselves, and if we ever get our act together, we want to plan out meals for the whole week...
Gah! It's hard to live right without any template to follow

Nope, skipping meals is never a good idea. Even if you think it will help you lose weight, it actually does the opposite because it switches your metabolism into "starvation mode": your body starts to build and conserve fat reserves as a way to insure your survival during periods of starvation. Your metabolism slows, also to conserve calories and energy, and it can be very difficult to stimulate your metabolism back up into the healthy, fat-burning non-starvation mode. I don't mean to sound critical...but as a person who has gone through periods of starvation, both as a neglected child, and in self-imposed anorexic food rejection...skipping a few meals is an unhealthy, and potentially damaging approach to weight loss.

I do this a lot when I am feeling better and up off the couch. When I am not depressed I will go days without eating before I realize whoa I need some food cause I am about to pass out. I also struggle with an eating disorder. I literally have a love hate relationship with food. I love to eat but feel very upset with myself for eating. I always feel guilty if I eat a meal and feel full. Its a strange thing I know but thats how I am. I get disgusted with myself with every bite. Eating disorders are awful. I wish I could make all those thoughts go away. It turned one eating disorder into another and then for a long while I was also bulimic. Just a viscous circle of unhealthiness. What I was getting at though is that since I have had and eating disorder since I
was probably 14 maybe even younger, I have no problem going several days without food. Sometimes it actually makes me feel good not to eat at all for days. You eventually get so used to it that you actually enjoy that empty feeling. Its awful to say that I know. So please just be careful. Make sure you do eat, I would hate to see you develop something like this. I wouldnt wish it on anyone.
