Iv'e been working in my field- human services for almost 20 years and want to do something different. I am tired of working weekends and weekends and 2nd shift are what is mostly available.
My therapist and myself think its best for me, because of my bipolar, that I only work part time so the stress level is reduced. I also have back issues so I don't want to be seated 100% of the time. I'd like a job where I could stand/ sit equally. I'm willing to go back to school but can't see myself going for more than a 2 year degree since I am almost 45 and also impatient. Any ideas? What do you guys do for work? |

At my work, many people have standing desk configurations. Standing is supposed to reduce ergonomic stress and also prolong life. Studies show that the more we sit, we sooner we die. I am getting a standing desk next week. I will let you know whether I have been able to get used to it. A tall rolling chair is supplied together with the desk so that when tired you can still sit.

Ive never heard of a standing desk. Hmm interesting. Well anyway I used to do recreation for work untill a new boss came in and it didnt become friendly for me to work there anymore. I was able to stand part time and sit part time cause I was the boss in my area. It was a fun job hard work sometimes but very fulfilling. Maybe look into that.

The standing desk sounds good sort of like working at a counter? and being able to sit when needed.
and Clint where you a rec-director like for parks and rec or more of a recreation therapist? I did think about rec-therapy at 1 time and forgot all about it until now. I want to be able to move around at work and sit when I need to. |

I was kinda a rec directir in a small way i had a boss that ran the park and i ran the marina which we did everything with recreation that was a great job. I want to do rec therapy as a job instead of a patient someday lol it seems like an awesome job.

That does sound like a great job you had, I love being near water.
Lol it would be nice to run the therapy rather than being the patient, I know what you mean. |

I'm a receptionist and I don't recommend it for people who have bipolar. My moods are so up and down and I don't know when I'm bad, so although the patients seems to like me I don't think customer service is the best job for me. Also I think that since I'm the "face" of the office, I think that's bad.
My dream job now... would be a radio DJ. Because I could rant and rave on air and people could find my strange mood swings entertaining instead of annoying. LOL... And I can talk pretty much about anything and sound like I know what I'm talking about, and love music. ![]()
