If yo have any info I would appricate it. I have someone who is dear to me and I think she has the disorder, but I don't know how to tell her this news.

Oh, I sometimes think that about myself then I remember it is all mood related!

For your friend, don't diagnose her. This can be off putting and scary for someone. Instead, try to encourage her to seek help and that you're concerned not judging. Let her know an earlier intervention generally leads to a better prognosis with any mental disorder but qualify it as if she has a problem at all. You may see it as very obvious but, she'll very likely feel the stigma attached to these type of words right away.

I agree with cocoabeans. It's good to be concerned and good to educate yourself, just in case. But don't try to diagnose. And do encourage her to seek help. That's kind of hard to do, I know. Maybe ask how she's feeling and let her know you're concerned about her.

I know when I was having that episode of psychosis I believed it 100% and I dont' think I would have believed I was wrong. I might have even been mad if someone told me it was "crazy" or whatever. But, and this is a huge but, now when I look back I see all these people that I told and no one did a thing. It makes me angry and furious. But if someone had said something or done something, even just let me know they were worried and cared... I would be very grateful to that person.

Click on "Conditions" at the top of the PsychCentral page. Then go to the link for schizophrenia and you will be able to learn a lot.
