Some of the recent discussion about work makes me wonder if I will be able to qualify for unemployment benefits soon. I had requested that my time at work be able to accomodate my time needed off for appointments, explaining that I could work at least 80% of the work week. In my job we don't have to explain why we are taking off, but my principal knows there is a medical need. She does not know about the bipolar diagnosis. She said that I would need to work my given job or not at all because there isn't a position to accommodate my needs.
Will I be able to get unemployment benefits when my contract is finished? I am not going to be rehired. We work with a contract each year. I am in North Carolina. Bluemountains |

I think so. I'm not sure but just because you have a (union?) contract doesn't mean you didn't lose your job.

Each state has their own laws on unemployment insurance/laws. If she is a teacher, then it is probably a year by year contract and if they aren't resigned you lose your job. Schools do this to keep teachers from reaching tenure and keep wages down.

Thanks for the input. And, yes, Confused is right, teachers here are usually on a year to year contract. Those of us with many years experience have a very hard time finding new employment.
