I think the binge drinking for sure can send you into an episode, does for me. I'm not sure about skipping meds, probably should take them as prescribed.

If I drink the next day I am off. It doesnt matter if you skip a day...the meds are still in your system.

People react very differently. I react to a two-day skip - I start climbing into mania. Why are you skipping?

Obviously not a good idea to skip meds and self-medicate with alcohol. That's about as useful as eating a Whopper with everything and washing it down with diet soda. But then, I'm biased because I'm an alcoholic with 20 years sobriety and the majority of bipolar people have substance-abuse issues......

I find that if I have even one drink that I will feel depressed or agitated the next day. I do not skip my meds when I have a drink. In fact, I never skip meds. I figure that if I am planning to have a drink, that I have to plan for the next day. Therefore I drink very rarely. It is kind of like the emotional hangover of doom, so I try to avoid it. Since I don't have a drinking problem, I do it once in a while.
You have said that you think you have a drinking problem on the weekends. You can be considered an alcoholic if you are only drinking on weekends. If you have a therapist, you could discuss this wilth him or her. Maybe your T can set you up with a list of AA meetings or some other program to help you stop. Do you want to stop? |

Using BipolaRNurse's analogy, I would advise to at least not skip your meds. At least do not wash down your Whopper with everything with diet soda. Sure, the meds won't work properly combined with alcohol, but it is still better than no meds at all. Do you think you can do it?
