I know the generic definition but I need a better definition. Hallucination are things you see or here that aren't there. How would you know if they where or where not real? Delusion are strange ideas but how could you know if it was / is strange? AND When to call the dr.?

When you're delusional, you won't know you're delusional most of the times. Usually you would have someone else tell you, and chances are you won't believe them. I've had close enough delusions to where I really believed some stuff but was told it wasn't real/wasn't true. I was conscious of the dissonance so I wasn't quite "delusional". (That's what my pdoc told me.)

Hallucinations vary. I don't get bad hallucinations personally, but some people are and some people aren't able to tell if something is or isn't there. Sometimes the images are scary OR out of place so you're able to tell. There are also hallucinations of smell. The worst I had was water turned red like blood if I looked at it quickly and hearing my name occasionally. Auditory I think are most common. A lot of times if you're not sure you can ask a person if the stimuli is real.

If you're asking about them, they might not be severe but it's always a good idea for your support team to know so you can prevent it from escalating.

When it's happening you don't know and that's why you need someone you trust to look out for you and help you, call the Dr. for you etc. My person is my husband.

Last time I went into psychosis from a manic state was last year after we lost our home to foreclosure. I was seeing spiders, thought I was dying, thought the new place we moved to was a Mafia hideout, and more.

Some of the stuff sounds funny now. we laugh... but at the time it was pretty scary.
Thanks for this!

Your welcome, I'm so glad I could help.

That's what being married is all about, right? to have each others back in sickness and in health. You'd do the same for him.

I must get some sleep now, more packing tomorrow I mean today. I may have to take another stupid Seroquel because its already 2:30. My doc won't give me sleeping pills h'ed rather I get hooked on antipsychotics . He is such a jerk I am currently dr. shopping.

I'm sorry I'm rambling. I wish you peace.
