This has been happening for a long time now. It's not something that happens occasionally. It happens every day now, which has increased from before when it was more sporadic, but has been getting steadily worse over the last 3 years. I think it is a sign of something that is wrong but no one believes me. I'm not the only one who notices this, lots of people notice it.
So what is this troubling thing? When I answer the phone at work I can't get the time of day right. "Good afternoon thank you for calling...." Oh, it's only 8 a.m. And then when afternoon comes around... "Good morning...." Patients actually laugh and make jokes. Sometimes they get upset, some people ask what the heck is wrong with me. I try to be slow. I take a deep breathe before I speak, be calm. Wrong words come out. ![]() What the heck is this and why does it keep getting worse? Has anyone else experienced it? ![]()

I have the opposite problem where I talk so fast people ask me to stop and slow down before repeating myself.
When you are answering the phone is the type of situation where you are maybe typing away and doing something else? So when you answer the phone your mind might still be on what you are working on besides the time of the day. As I type this, I wonder if I used to have this problem because I now have a habit where when my phone rings I put my hand on it, look at the time and then answer. I've been doing that for years now. Not saying that would work for you but I guess I make it a point to stop and check so I don't make this mistake. I know that if I make that first mistake on time it makes me trip over the rest of my words the rest of the conversation and stopping to think before I answer has helped me to stop making that first mistake.

Well, I also have the problem that I talk too fast. Pressured speech is one of my main symptoms of mania. It's only this one thing I have trouble with. And sometimes it makes people really upset. I think they think I'm joking around or something, but I'm not. I always look at the clock first. I take a deep breath before I speak. I try to keep my words measured. In fact, the other issue is everyone thinks I'm a machine when I answer the phone, because I've praticed measuring my speach.

I feel like it happens fairly often enough, when I call places, they mix up the morning / afternoon thing. Doesn't bother me at all. If someone gets mad at you about that, they might need to lighten up.

I agree with BlueInanna. They sound like they have some issues. That should not be that big of a deal. Its something I would try to laugh off.

I talk so fast I forget what I'm talking about, skip words or combine words, finish different sentences/ideas than what I started with and simply jumble up to the point where I know I'm not making sense then make a joke of it. I'm almost always tongue tied but, that's because I can barely focus on any one thought or have any thoughts at all sometimes. I'm not even that worried about that, figure people just think I've had too much coffee most of the time
![]() The time of day thing seems common, I've done it and so have many others I know...something about a work day, it blends together and afternoon, morning or night all feels the same. People who have an issue with that have issues or perhaps your perception is off? Uh okay haha, it is morning?! can mean nothing but that! |
