I've been in a major depression for almost three weeks and just got put back on a low dose of prozac. I've had two doses so far and I still feel like poop. I wish it worked faster....and I don't get why side effects can start any time but the med can take up to three weeks in some cases before there's any relief.
And all this makes me feel worse because I know there are people out there who have it much worse.

Some meds are not good. I was on Prozac for years, when I was first diagnosed with depression. It was a godsend at the time, but eventually stopped working. (This is a long history, over many years.) I then went on Paxil, which also worked for a while, but then began making me feel complacent and apathetic. I actually then spent two whole years weaning myself off Paxil, thinking I'd be okay with no antidepressant, but, finally off the meds completely for several months, I was pretty much a basket case, crying constantly. My doc put me on zoloft, the generic is what I take, and a low dose at that. It is working very well for me. I do not recommend Paxil, but I suggest if you find no relief with Prozac, to try something else.

It took me several days (more than two) to feel the first beneficial effects of Prozac, and weeks before it came on full force.

...hey....I won't force you to believe me ...but here goes.....

as for those other people who might have it worse

let them think worry do their thing it's your time right now to live not theirs they gonna do it anyway without you and whats bad for you is worse for you if you believe you aint entitled to it ...

yeah the side effects are immediate just like any drug it's full on weird yep...

depression is a serious combatant for the 'anti-depressant' and it does take a bit for the brain chemistry to accept and adapt and God I hope it's a suitable one for you they can be tricky excellent and sometimes dreadful things depending but can usually tell pretty quick if it's bad but the doc will always say wait a bit give it some time to settle...and it's a nice word that,.....settle

....if it goes on too long feeling stranger than ever....tell the doc...I always read the CMI (consumer medical information) to keep onto it.

when I first went on anti depressants years ago I was so disappointed I didn't get immediately better...it's a natural response...
