Hello ladies,

I am finding that I drop predictably low at a certain point each month and then I can flip to mild hypomania after this. Does anyone else out there think that hormones flip their moods.

I finally have tried a birth control pill to try and even things out and am concerned that I have dropped lower than usual for longer than usual.

Any insight or experiences out there related to hormonal changes, birth control and moods?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Birth control messes me up really bad, actually. I was on Depo for about a year and I felt horrible the whole time, although I can't really pin-point why, but I also had a lot of random physical pain. But then I went on just the normal pill and i got a little better but not much. I went off it and got pregnant and I did pretty good during my pregnancy. Now I'm on the IUD and I seem to be okay in that department since it is such a low dose.

I don't think it's messing with me any more. I've been on it since March.

I'm terrible at remember to take meds so sometimes I was taking 5 pills at once... So I don't know if that is part of it. But i know at this point I don't think the IUD has anything to do with the issues I'm having.

I thought of that last week. I was having pms and quite depressed. Now that my period is over I feel fine. I'm not on any hormonal birth control though.

I am on a medication that has stopped my periods and it is not a birth control pill. I have used this for about 2 years and it has helped with my moods at that time of month. When I did have my periods my moods would become manic or hypomanic.

When I got on the pill my moods actually improved but, I still get down or irritable when I'm on my last week of the pill. Like with medications, it was difficult to adjust the first couple months though, mood wise.

I don't have any kids but a IUD was strongly suggested to me by my doctor because of migraines and I didn't want to try depo because of mood risk, haven't got one in yet. Makes me nervous!!

I am on Mirena IUD. I have never had moods depend on hormones, not at all, but I cannot sing enough praise to Mirena. It stops period in about 30% of women - a normal, expected, not-to-be-worried about side effect, and I have not had a full period in years. I sometimes have light spotting for a couple of hours, that is all. No mess, no pad/tampon expense. Plus, Mirena offers a mild protection against cancers. If a period is what is causing you dips in moods, maybe it is worth trying this BC method in the hopes that it would eliminate or at least lighten your period. It is progesterone only, no estrogen. Stays in utero for 5-7 years. Incredibly effective.

Because of my age and the fact that I have three children, a permanent solution was offered to me, but I did not take it, partly because of some crazy dreams that I would not go in now, partly because I did not want to go back to having periods.
Thanks for this!

I'm using the 2month injectable (forget what its called, starts with an N) solely for the purpose of dodging my mentstrual cycle fell pregnant thru the pill, and Depo turned me into a walking talking skeleton don't think my moods were ever affected by BC, tho I can't be 100% sure.

I took depo for about 5 months. Worked great for getting rid of my period. Then I had to have a hysterectomy (for other reasons). Don't recommend that one as a solution tho, it crashes you into major menopause and turns you into a total witch for a while. I'm told hormones help, but I couldn't take any of them. Already being on a mood stabilizer worked pretty well for me, tho, and I have to say, I don't miss my period and monthly mood changes one bit!

I take normal BC and I think it's creating a serious mess. I have migraines, erratic periods, terrible moods that swap from hypomania to depression in a day or so.... Would prefer a different plan
