I have made a decision to keep my self revelation to purely clinically relevant summaries of what my symptoms are. My pdoc has displayed a cold arrogance toward me and she spoke with contempt. I have lost respect for her and no longer trust her with the details of my life. I will continue to see her until I have found a replacement pdoc, but I don't consider it inappropriate to keep my distance from her by limiting our discussions to the essential facts.

I think your list is great! Good Job!!
I always tell the truth in therapy or the psychiatrists office. They know me too well. |

I think he knows that I'll sometimes withhold or lie, but maybe he didn't/doesn't know how much my job loss affected me. He (and the T I was seeing at the time) said they were impressed at how quickly I bounced back, but I didn't let them know how low I fell.

My T (I got through the whole list!) said that we should discuss why I sometimes withhold information. If you disclose to your clinicians that you withheld in the past, they, too, might talk with you about the "why".

How does "I didn't want to be committed" sound?

Thing is, I wouldn't bother with a doctor....even though I've told my parents that it IS a waste of time & money, they don't listen. So your logic doesn't work so well in my life, unfortunately. :P

I know my pdoc has never been eager to have me in the hospital, but I think that day he might have considered it. I know if I had found any lethal meds, I would have taken them. Admittedly, more time away from being fired did help, so perhaps there is something to be said for forcing people to wait.

I did very well today, despite the fact that my new doctor is SO young that for a split second I thought that I would be embarrassed to tell him my problems, or would not be able to take the conversation seriously at all. But I made myself tell him every little detail. And, of course, I told him about lack of disclosure. His eyes lit up! He thought that it would be a terrific topic to discuss in therapy - to have 40 minutes with someone to talk just about why I do not disclose. He said that in a meds management clinic this is not possible, but in therapy, it is (he in general recommended weekly therapy to me). But boy did his eyes light up! I imagine that had he had 40 minutes with me to talk about it, he would have made the best out of that time.
