It's been brought to my attention that maybe I am a tad bit more bipolar that what I was diagnosed with. Just for shots and giggles I've done a couple of the tests online. Do they mean anything??

Some do if they follow the criteria for the DSM diagnosis, most don't.

lol christy from the title i thought you were texting yourself, i'm thinkin i didnt even know you could do that...and why would you text yourself...haha

but regarding the online tests, i think they can be telling, some are probably crocks. you know yourself, but it can help you pinpoint the symptoms and know what to discuss with the pdoc.

Only a complete neuropsychological evaluation is truly meaningful. But it is expensive, if the insurance does not cover.

Like BlueInanna, I thought you were texting yourself. I email myself all the time, so I was not surprised .
Thanks for this!

I don't think there is such thing as Super bipolar or Extreme bipolar. Are you wondering whether you are type I or type II? Either way, it's still bipolar.

Kind of like when a woman says she's just barely pregnant.
Thanks for this!

What is the difference in Bi-polar I or II? I know one is way worse than the other but not sure which one is which.

Lol thanks guys. If I could text myself I totally would, like every hour, every day!!! I guess my issue isn't how bipolar am I. It's more of a thing like how much meds I should be on that will work for me therapeutically.

Until you get properly assessed by a professional, none of that can really be determined. And even with a diagnosis, the amount of meds and kinds of meds, etc. varies widely since we all present our bipolarness uniquely.
Thanks for this!

Do you realize how many meds there are out there to treat bipolar? There are TONS! I'm sure there are about 15 different bipolar meds alone that us here on the bipolar forums take, let alone the meds we need to take for our other Dx

If the meds aren't working for you, say it. My meds happen to work for me without needing to switch them and I am actually coming off of them. Other people here have had to switch their meds frequently because they don't work. Meds don't work for everyone.

If your concerned about your exact diagnosis .. best thing to do is ask your Doctor .. If you disagree... you can talk to your doctor about it.." Most" doctors can and will explain to you WHY they have diagnoses you as ______.

Good luck

Yea I go on Tuesday. The meds have worked at slowing down my thoughts when I was first on them but it's getting worse and worse everyday again. Plus my legs hurt so bad at night after I take them that I am almost in tears and have to have a hot bath to soothe them. I'm back to some old habits again which did stop for a while when I first started. Two thumbs down for seroquil and remeron in my books

I think the folks posting to you are right, Christy. Make a list of your serious questions you want answered and then discuss them with your psychiatrist. You will more than likely get sincere responses and might even see some mild changes in medications if called for.

It's a very positive step to take.

Take care.

I have not tried but I thought you would; it goes through the network, after all. It is not like on old landline rotary phones when you could not call yourself without getting a busy signal.

Back to the original post, no, the "real" tests such as MMPI or Millon personality assessment have been tried on millions of people and information from all those people is feedback to the test. They also have safeguards against lying. No internet self test comes close to the real thing. They are for entertainment purposes only. Might be educational but no more than that.

...someone else said it Christy about the title there and I'm sorry but just couldn't help myself ...cos when I read it and knowing you like I do I really imagined it happening...that you were sending text messages to yourself poor thing and it's so innocent the way you would ask if the messages would mean much? and ignoring how could they get sent ....unless have two phones?...way too cute

as far as the tests go I don't really know I wouldn't rely on them more than just a curiosity the questions and that are pretty broad and 'multiple choice' answers leaves no room for the details and I need to put in the details...aaaah!

I know nothing about smart phones. Is it possible to record yourself then set it on a timer/alarm to go off at your choosing?
Or record yourself then listen to yourself like listening to your voice mail greeting, if the thing won't go off on it's own?
Ok, now if all this was nonsense, feel free to laugh at my expense.
