Has anyone ever taken Symbyax? When I told my pdoc that I did not want to take Fanapt because it is such a new med, he suggested this. Apparently, it is a mixture of Zyprexa and Prozac. If you take it, do you like it? People with experience with pure Zyprexa or Prozac are also welcome to reply.

Thanks

Sorry that Prozac did that to you. Hopefully the Zyprexa will prevent that from happening. Thanks for your input!

That's actually a really interesting drug, I just looked it up. I didn't know they even made drugs like that. Anyhow, I've tried Prozac and it made me a bit manic. However, I was on the low end of Seroquel and I don't think it worked as a good antipsychotic/anti-manic drug. The Prozac did lift my depression just too much if you know what I mean. I wish you the best in relieving your symptoms with this medication.

I was on prozac in the past and did fine until my dose was upped.
I got taken off it when I had to go into partial.
I'm back on prozac now and am doing well. I've been on it for 8 days now and
my depression is finally starting to lift.
I've never been on zyprexa.

I took Prozac when I was first diagnosed and decided, no...it can't be bipolar. We can just call it depression...and that didn't end well. Don't need the gory details I'm sure.

Hear Zyprexa is mad for weight gain though.

Hi - I took Symbyax for about 9 months a few years ago. While it worked OK, the Zyprexa was a problem with weight gain. It made me hungry constantly and I gained about 25-30 lbs. I'm thin to begin with, but the added weight was not good. Zyprexa can also elevate blood sugar levels, which happened to me. I would avoid it if possible. I eventually stopped taking the Symbyax and stayed on Prozac for awhile, then added Geodon to replace the Zyprexa. I've had better luck with Geodon.
