My T recommended resigning from my high stress fulltime job and seeking either inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment. She told me to go home (not to work) and think about it and call her back. I did call my job about going on a medical leave of absence, which I'm not eligible of course. I may be able to get short term disability. I decided to do the intensive outpatient. Even though it's a month on average, at least I can sleep in my own bed and see my daughter. Of course the hospital she and my psychiatrist referred me to is out of my network, so I called another hospital. I go for an assessment in the morning, and I'm really nervous. I have no idea what to expect at all except that it's pretty much all day. Is it the same as inpatient or totally different? Anyone have an idea of what I'm getting myself into?

Other people have been to intensive out-patient. I have not. My T suggested it once and I declined rather venomously. I did later ask her to tell me or DH if she feels it is needed.

I went. We had three therapists who rotated through the groups. Usually we would see two therapists on any particular day.

Groups met for 45 min and then we had 10 break. They fed us lunch.

The topic of each group varied. Sometimes we talked about things that affected all the clients like sleep hygiene, or being familiar with psych meds. Sometimes if someone was doing poorly we would focus on that client for one of the group sessions. Some days were more helpful than others.

It's official. I'm going 5 days a week from 8:30-1:30. Group, break, group, lunch, "other" therapy, group. I can leave at lunch if I want to and quit anytime, though they'd call me and request I come back according to the social worker who evaluated me. Apparently I am a "great candidate" for this program. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad. Also, even with good insurance, it's going to cost about $7800 for a month. Hopefully, I'll qualify for short term disability and at least be able to pay my car note and phone bill. Think positive thoughts!!!!!

Sounds like it could be very beneficial! Thinking good thoughts!!
Funny how I have good insurance too, but the mental heath coverage is so minimal.

I did intensive outpatient a few years ago. I think its a great idea because it allows you to focus on your recovery while not being stuck in the hospital and worried about work, so you have the best of both worlds. It was scary taking all that time off of work, but if you think about it, your sanity is most important, otherwise you will not be able to work. But I was off for about a month to give my meds some time to kick in and receive therapy to be able to recover. And yes, I get to go home and sleep in my own bed, rather than being stuck in a hospital.
Mine pretty much was group therapy in the morning, then we were fed lunch, and I think another short session afterwards...

I had typed a long update, but my computer shut down unexpectedly, so. Basically hospital wanted $2000 up front and $1335 every Monday after the first week, so im in a different program. 9-3, group, group, lunch, group. They want me to add addiction classes at night due to my history, but I can't see a feasible way to add those now. Maybe when I finish the day sessions. I was diagnosed with bp 1, rather than nos, borderline personality, and ptsd. I'm dealing with it, though.
