Hi, I was on Risperdal to treat bipolar for approximately 5 weeks during this time I gained an astounding 25 pounds. I was eating pretty badly to be honest, but definitely not badly enough to gain 25 pounds. Now I am off that terrible drug, eating healthy, and exercising.

Any of you have experience with such bad weight gain from Risperdal?

I have not experienced bad weight gain, but I have experienced astoundingly bad acne and Parkinson-like symptoms. I would never go back on that drug. It also completely depleted me of energy. I now take Geodon, and save for a significant drawback (in my signature), it is a wonder AP. Beats Risperdal (which also gave me the same drawback) by a long shot. Much recommended.

I was on Risperdal for about a month and I gained alot weight ..It was terrible .. so I saw my Pdoc and he took me off it . Wait gain is pretty common on any mood stabilizer and AP's .

Definatly see your pdoc .. gaining weight like that can up your bood sugar which of course can lead to Diabetes.

Good luck

My husband is still losing weight, but it's very slow compared to before starting that medication.
