Does anyone remember the med that was being talked about on here for weight loss? It was a med that someones doc was giving them to counter act the weight gain caused by psych meds. I mentioned it to my doc but couldnt remember the name, but he sounded like he was game to put me on it after I have now gained 60lbs.....

Topomax (a psychoactive med with side effects)? Metformin (an antidiabetic med that I am currently taking, so far without results but I am at a low dose)?

Good to see you again!
Thanks for this!

Thank you it was topomax that I was wanting. My doc mentioned the metformin to me as well said its usually used in diabetes but many pdocs are starting to use it with success in our case too. I go back in a month and hope to get one of these meds.

Thanks Hamster its great to see you too. Been gone awhile, but I check in now and then. I need to be on here more and probably will be now that my kidds are back in school for the year.

I can tell you about Metformin that although it is yet to produce weight loss, it has already made a difference in my taste buds. It returned to me my natural taste. I can drink plain, straight water and tea without sweetener. I am very happy with this positive side effect.
Thanks for this!

I take Geodon and it has the same affect of losing weight. I lost a lot of weight both times on it. I gained 60lbs with my first pregnancy, and still carried a good amount of it around when I was diagnosed two years later. After trying other meds that made me gain MORE weight, my current pdoc suggested Geodon. It really suppresses your appetite! I would eat half a sandwich and feel completely full, hardly able to finish that. After my second child, I had to get back on afer 2 weeks. I gained 45lbs with him, and lost it all within about 2 months. I had to add Lamictal because I was losing too much weight. The two together stabled me out.

So look into Geodon if you want, maybe it will work for you. A co-worker friend of mine takes Topamax, and I know that has helped her lose some weight as well. Good luck to you! I know how frustrating it is to gain weight on meds you need to survive. I was taking Seroquel before and I gained about 20lbs on that.

I will look into these meds- I have gained a TON of weight on the current regime... we were giving it one more month (in which I have gained) and then making some changes... thanks for the info.
