Interesting article by Tom Wootton. He once again challenges traditional notions of disorder and recovery...

Thanks for sharing that article Venus.

I am trying to think about this right now and how this would fit. I wasn't sure why my bipolar seemed to have gotten so much better. I mean I know the work you put in and that stuff. But I still have ups and downs ,they just don't seem so extreme anymore. This is a different perspective tho, expanding your comfort zone to work within it. I wasn't sure if I was getting more comfortable, or they really were in "remission". An interesting way to look at it.

I know you have talked about this in different ways, I think this article completes that point of view.

Skimmed through, sounds about right. "Bipolar disorder" doesn't exist for me anymore.

i've had this postcard sized flyer on my dest at work for a long time. it's holographic and his face moves side to side as you move the card. i often play with it looking at it, move my head side to side like him, when i can't deal with work, lol.

Bipolar In Order is an interesting concept that, unfortunately, I have no concept of whatsoever. Guess I'm stuck in the "disorder" phase for a while....frankly, I feel lucky to have gotten to recovery. Why is it that whenever I'm about to make ends meet, some asshat moves the ends!??

I really like this guy.

I've watched a few of his YouTube videos now and need to get his book. Although the cover of that one book make me dizzy.

He talks about how much easier it is to level us all out, but so far I don't like being leveled out. I can't be creative this way. The world needs its crazy creatives.

I don't think that's what he is necessarily saying. I think he is saying that with practice and some confidence you can achieve stability while still experiencing intense emotions. It's just you'll have the tools to manage the emotions so it doesn't get out of control.

--

I am lightly medicated. I go through a few days every month or two where I get pretty "depressed". (Like I won't move or accomplish anything for a few days) Even though I experience these physical symptoms of depression, I don't have negative thoughts associated with it. My last active suicidal thoughts were last spring. It's possible to get there if you challenge yourself to view things different.

I read this article (or something similar) a long time ago and it's shaped the way I view my "disorder". Watching people like Anika and Trippin's life perspective change gave me prompting that I could achieve the same. I've also admired Venus because she's always questioning WHY and showing people that they can do something to change the situation. You can't be satisfied with what is in front of you because there is always room for some improvement.

No, that's not what he is saying. In one of his videos that I watched, he said that is how psychiatrists see us. Get us stable and we don't feel highs or lows so we're easier to deal with, but it's not necessarily the best for us.

I'm definitely ordering his book. I can't stand this feeling of the entire world being BLAH.
