If you had a chance for more intensive medical / psychological testing for a better Dx. would you take it?

I found out that I may not be BP. Because of BPD stigma my doctor and I decided it's best to keep it BP on paper. He told me that he treats them both the same.

It's also known that the two can coexist, so I may have both.

I was actually glad this discussion happened with him because I've been in the system for 3 1/2 years and its nice to get an accurate diagnosis. It doesn't change the fact that PC has helped me cope with my symptoms and that I am doing better now. I probably won't leave this forum either.

Five years from now when they have a bloodtest that can determine bipolar illness, I might consider going in for that test. Otherwise, I'm satisfied that so many psychiatrists can't be wrong. I've an inherited form of it, but it's mild. (Even aspirin was prescribed by one psychiatrist--aspirin alone. Can you believe it?)

It's mostly in the chemistry, I think.

I wish they'd hurry up and get a sure diagnosis with bloodwork.

No I do not want anymore testing. What ever they want to call what I am, am now quite ok with me. I feel like more testing and psychological probing will not benefit me, I already know what goes on in my head and my heart better than anyone else. And after almost a decade of the pros trying to help me, I figured out how and what I actually need, and most of the time, the dr's were not even close.

The labeling of me has not changed me at all. And the things I have or can change I can do on my own either way.

It's okay. Treatment is the same either way.

I feel weird thinking about posting on other subforums. hahaha

In a heartbeat. While I'm coping incredibly well despite my obstacles, I like being able to "close the book" on what I may or may not have. The labels have no meaning to me... I just hate finding myself running the same mental circles trying to determine what may or may not be causing my symptoms. It's aggravating!

Also, another big reason I want testing is because I think I have a neurological condition that might have caused some of my symptoms. I have family members with multiple sclerosis, cns lupus, epilepsy, etc. And I also "had" hyperthyroidism that I'm not sure could have had an effect on my personality changes. So I'd like to debunk my personal suspicions on those grounds, as well.

I primarily want more testing because of the psychosis I had all those years ago. I need to know if it is something that will come back or not... or if I am bipolar and not schizoaffective or schizophrenia instead (I do get flat affect and also some cognitive issues and speach issues that concern me,) or as well as bipolar or whatever...

Also because I doubt my schizoid diagnosis.

My diagnosis is incomplete, I guess. That's why I would do more testing. I don't doubt the bipolar part tho. I have lots of symptoms and cycle and all of that. It's the other stuff. And, even if knowing for myself means nothing, I will know for my kids and grandkids and great-grandkids so they can have insight into their own health.

Genetic

but what if there is such test... and 50% of us test negative because... well our lifestyles, traumas and all the jazz? Nobody would feel any better for "not having it".

In the end, it don!t matter.
