how many bp friends do you have?

I have a very cool friend, Joe. He is a former colleague. He has bp2. Joe introduced me to Kay Jamison and through her I was introduced to Litium, the first drug to help me after Depakote, Lamictal and Seroquel all failed miserably. Joe and I are friends via email for the most part, but soon he is going to come for dinner. I will cook and he will teach me how to smoke marijuana - I lack that skill . But most importantly, we will talk. I do not have other friends who would be openly bp with me. How about you?

In my case, I think birds of a feather really do flock together. IRL I have several friends who are BP, and out of the 10 members of my private group on Facebook, 7 of us are. And then, of course, there's you guys.

You crazy bunch are the only other bp'ers I know and I'm glad to call you all friends...

One in the physical life. But we could not be more different.

My friends wife is and we are friends. But she is attractive and it's ackward to sit down with her and spend time with her so it's not like we talk a whole lot.

It's uncomfortable for me. She's a very liberated women, so she is always hugging me and playing with her eyes with me and maybe that's what I mean when I say attractive, but it's like I feel like I'm betraying him by being friends with her. I don't know why. maybe cuz she is attractive, I feel a little attracted to her and that is not cool when I'm married and have two kids and it's my buddies wife. I'm not too sure though why, but I've never been able to stay good friends IRL with a female.

I think that may be because I am very carefree and loose and when that happens with another girl it gets "too comfortable" and I'm worried that something bad might happen. I've never ever cheated with even a touch, but I can really see how it happens.

Got it My mom always says 'better safe than sorry'... So I understand where you're coming from. However, (just adding for your peace of mind) marriage doesn't mean never being attracted to anyone else ever again, it means remaining faithful. Which you ARE. Afterall think about it, it is a marriage certificate, NOT a death certificate. Dead people dont feel attraction... So you have no reason to feel guilty for being human and feeling natural feelings. Its not like you're a dog on heat... Just saying

My friend who is BP is also my mother-in-law, so family more than friend (but she's my friend too.)

One of my old "friends" also had BP, before I was diagnosed. She would talk about her BP to me and I would always be, "Oh yeah, that sounds like me!" >.> Of course she never suggested maybe I see a doctor or anything, and sat back watching me go through psychosis like it was a joke. I think about her sometimes, and wonder why I ever thought she was my friend.

I have a friend who thinks getting a little upset = being bipolar.

So degrading, anyways, I don't have any BP friends. Where did you guys meet yours?

I met mine through work.

Through a college friend, the thing is I was dx when I was 17 and ignored, denied it untill I got re dx after I had met her. She was dx about a year later. We are very different but I think that is why we clicked.

So far zero is by far the most popular answer. No wonder this board exists!

Besides here, I have my daughter Kelly who is almost 32. She was dx at 13

I don't know what the answer is. Strickly bp, none, except for my son who claims me as a friend occasionally. I have lots of other friends and family members with other diagnoses-several friends who are treated for depression, a sister who is schizophrenic, and some cousins who I highly suspect are being treated for something on the spectrum. Mental illness and substance abuse are pretty much the norm in my family.

It's possible. I have two good male friends IRL. Unfortunately, they live far from me: one in Florida and the other in Germany. We are not in daily correspondence; the one in Florida hates email. But... it is very nice to know that they exist. Both have been my friends since adolescence. I could have been amorous with both back then, but I did not overstep boundaries and am reaping the rewards now, 20+ years later.

I have male friends too.

I dont know how many have MIs. I dont think I need to know unless they decide to tell me. I suspect everyone has problems though.
