Well I've exhausted all options to get one of my medications.
1. It's not available on the discount pharmacy list ($4). 2. My doctor's office has no samples. 3. The pharmaceutical company has no discount program. 4. I recently assigned up for a state funded prescription plan. I learned today that my Risperdal is not covered. The generic for Risperdal is $170. I can't afford that price. I'm at a mental health urgent care clinic trying to see what options I have. I'm going to stay strong yet I'm pissed at the US healthcare system.

Im so sorry to hear that. Stay strong, hopefully they will have something for you there. There has to be something they can do.

I hear you, Coco.
 The only thing the US healthcare system does it make money for itself. It's not there for any of us, even those people with insurance. It's all a big joke.

Im sorry, I hope something works out. Yes stay strong!
I hear you all and I am not even an american. But seeing so many of my american friends here struggle without having health care, or access to treatment makes me pretty upset. I sure hope this will change soon.

I can relate to what you are saying. When I file my taxes I spend aprox $8K just on meds annually. Abilify is the most expensive and it won't be generic until 2015. When I was in graduate school I made friends with a girl who worked for pfizer. She said they have 80-90% profit margins on some medications. Why? for R&D. It's such a flipping con game. And generic drugs only have to be about 80% of the original complex. These are often made in India under questionable conditions I would imagine  Ephedrine for meth was also shipped in from Indian pharmacies illegally.

Me and my mother-in-law were discussing the horribleness of having mental illness and lack of heathlcare for it. And how if you don't have money you're screwed, and how it even leads to those who are obviously a danger to themselves or others to not get the care they need and deserve....

I'm so happy and feel so blessed. Thank you guys for all the words of encouragement.
The urging care clinic is part of a community mental health program which manages several out patient clinic. They also manage a pharmacy inside one of the clinic locations. I was able to get my Risperdal (the generic) for $12. Yes $12. God is so good. I'm so glad things worked out. This way each month I can go to their pharmacy plus. The plis is i don't have to be a clinic patient. I'm glad b/c I kinda like my psych doc and she's not part of the same company.

Most of the time I only share my barriers with this forum. Others can't relate to struggles with mental stability and access to medication. I prayed and worked really hard to reach stability. Risperdal is part of my regimen and I was determined to continue taking it. You ladies are so awesome. This forum is a wonderful cyber support system.
