Okay this really has nothing to do with bipolar but I wanted to see what everyone thought.

So I guess there is a new vest out, and you wear it and program it to your computer or something. Anyway, any time someone "likes" your status on Facebook, the vest will tighten and warm up slightly to give you a "hug." And then, the vest also has a button on it that you press and if the person who "liked" your status is also wearing a vest, they will get a "hug" back....

It is predicted to be a "big item" for the holidays.

Anyway, I think it's not only ridiculous and rather hilarious... but also very troubling and sad. Because everyone needs hugs but I doubt a vest is going to do the trick. But I can also think there are people out there desperate enough for a hug that they will buy a vest and wear it all the time. And then what's worse, it's like a double positive or negative. Sure, the vest will hug you when you get the like. But what about people like me, where no one really pushes "like" on anything on Facebook except rarely for me... I can see this thing depressing more people than it hugs...

A while back there was a post in general discussion forum I think about something similar, robotic hug yourself machines or something. I think it's really sad actually.

I mean I love robots and all... I do, nerdy like that in the basement. But way to phase out human contact. We already phased out real life conversation, now we have phased out phone conversation ( the enjoyable kind only ), and now we are working on phasing out the need for human contact through touch. It's sad, and sad that there is a need for this.

Ya and then what if you are not active on there, no account, or have crappy friends... no hug for you! Gawd humans are so smart and stupid all at the same time.

I'd hug you DH!

No, I am kinda just kidding around, though I do think it's kinda sad to have hug vests, cause humans need real hugs. I am a bit of a pessimistic that humans are slowly fading out having human contact with one another cause we are too busy for it irl.

LOL...

They were talking about that on the radio. That it needs to be "hug underware" and not a vest....

I agree, phasing out human contact. Our society is all about work, work, work, work. No time to have human contact.

My councelor when I was in high school told me that humans need at least 10 instances of physical contact a day. Like shake hands, or a hug, or something like that. People who don't get 10 are more likely to go through depression. I believe it. We're social animals, and I don't mean social network animals. We belong in little tribes taking care of each other. Not big cities ignoring everyone....

I always think this stuff is interesting, how do we come up with these numbers? I agree totally, we need each other as much as we would love to claim we are super independent of one another.

Wonder if we are just trying to evolve faster than we actually are. Humans are cute and funny.. It's cute that we think we are sooo different from other animals and funny that we think we are beyond nature. That consciousness we got sure gets in the way sometimes.

I love humankind I do, but sometimes wth are we doing. Ok done rant now.

How they come up with the number is people sign up and someone in a white lab coat follows them around. Every time they get a hug or a handshake the lab-coat person asks "Do you feel more depressed or less despressed?" They puts a check mark in the box that goes with your answer.

The funny thing will be start watching for people wearing these vests. The newest fashion accessory.

haha that was funny.

Oh boy, Do you think people will be comfy and confident walking around in their huggie? Remember when blue tooth head sets came out? I couldn't help but giggle, Who are these extras from the Matrix? Don't they have to hand that gear in after the show is over? Ugh I am bad. I have a one now, but I still don't use it, and who is the stupid one here... me.. cause I am gonna get a brain tumor from using my cell so much!

Will be funny if they come up with way to send super sonic hugs, one right after another, and another.

Now if you talk to yourself in public, and someone looks at you, you can just reach up and touch ear then put your had in your purse or pocket, they will think you took off your blue-tooth.

The hug vest is for those who do not have body image issues. It makes you look like you swallowed a couple of pillows and they got stuck....

Swallowed pillows is right, no wonder it only comes in black. I don't want this.. where they talk about feeling the de-friending and being followed and shared.... ohh creepy.

Yeah. Haha... I already feel like I'm being followed quite enough on my own, thanks...

Can you imagine if someone was wearing this at a work meeting. It looks like a normal vest. Then suddenly it starts to inflate. How to explain that to your boss. "I swear, it must have been that cat video I posted this morning!"

They have had this out for dogs for a while......no, not the dogs on facebook....LOL....... It relieves anxiety and it does work....Doesn't plug in to anything though....just hugs the dog like a receiving blanket holds the baby. It called a thunder vest or something like that. I would not wear such a thing though.........I hope and pray no one buys something like this.....God Help Us....but you know people will buy this.....too bad we did not think this up. W e probably could make a little money for the holidays if we did!

Poke would be creepy. Would it just be a tap on the shoulder? When my aunt was learning to use facebook the only thing she could do was poke. Haha.

Imagine! Can you just imagine? Being in the midst of bipolaric scenery, hearing little kids sing 1 line of a Sunday-school song, over and over... And then being tapped on your shoulder REPEATEDLY! No thanks, I have enough to deal with
