I finally made it to class tonight. Finally because I finally unpacked my yoga clothes after the move.
It was so good! I feel remarkably good and balanced and full of life. They are starting a class for cancer patients and the flyer listed relief from depression as one of the benefits attributed to restorative yoga. I am willing to believe it! |

Yes Hammy, a balancing of moods is a side effect of yoga.

That's so awesome! I am considering taking yoga as a class next semester... I'd have more incentive to get up and go knowing that it will improve my mood. I took fencing last semester and always felt much better after, it was nice to get some anger out lol : )

I am so happy for you too Hamster! shinkikker - I took hatha yoga in college (20 years ago yikes). It was a great way to learn it, great attention from teacher, and earning college credits at same time, very good deal.

I have actually read some place that there was a study comparing yoga and the regular PE class in how they affected the mood of high school students. Regular PE class led to depression, and yoga led to improvement in the mood. Both my daughters take yoga this year. I am happy for them.

One of my daughters goes to a charter public middle school that offers yoga. The other goes to a regular high school but attends free yoga classes for adolescent girls through their local yoga studio (a teaching studio, too). I go once a week. Restorative yoga utilizes many props which would be expensive to buy for home use (and would occupy lots of space - many blankets, bolsters, blocks and what not).
