Hello everyone! It has been a while since my last post and I had a few questions about my new med. I saw pdoc, she told me I was bipolar II like I had suspected and now I am on lamictal (along with my 20mg of lexapro). Im at 50mg and go up to 75 in 2 days. I have been noticing a lot of bruises on my left leg- bruises that I dont recall doing anything to have! Has anyone else had this problem on this med? Im wondering if this is a side effect and if it could be serious. Also, I never had acne until a couple of days after taking this. If anyone has any information that could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would call your pdoc if I were you. A rash can be associated with lamictal and what you think is acne could be an indication. Please check it out.

I've been on this med, but had that sort of thing way before being on Lamictal.
I guess it can be related, or even anemia, can cause a person to bruise easier. If a person is taking blood thinners, bruising easy occurs too. If it seems to be bothersome, and increasing, give the prescribing pdoc a call.
I take 200mg's pf Lamictal per day, haven't had anything abnormal happen, as far as side effects.
Breakout,is probably just that, mild acne, and not the "rash", I would think you would have gotten it when you started the med, plus it is an extrememly rare, as far as the Stevens Johnson rash, but check with doc. Getting back to the bruises, vitamin defeciences can cause them too.
Once I was on Lamictal I was able to stop AD's, that weren't working any longer due to "poop out", it happens with SSRI' after a couple of yrs of use, with some people.
Many of my leg bruises have been from my 65lb puppy playfully running and jumping on me,looks like I was beat up, LOL!! My weight gain (age and not exercising) is causing me to be clumsy, so I'm hitting either my legs, arms into something, so maybe something similar is happening to you, non pill related. Check it out with the doc, to be sure.
Please take care,
Roe

i would call your doc just to make sure. I know when i was on lamictal i got the allergy rash and it did look like acne but wasnt on my face but on my tummy side. Probly check it out. Oh and the bruising is probly a vitamin deficiency that a multivitamin can take care of but before you go on a multivitam make sure you talk to your doc.

I have read that Lamictal should not cause weight gain however I too have gained a few pounds since taking it. I'm at 100 mg and have a dose change tomorrow. I feel that my weight gain has something to do with how much better I have felt since I started taking this med. ( I eat more when I feel good!)

I'm just the opposite, when I'm down or stressed, I eat, cause of hunger pangs, that I usually do not feel that strongly when I'm feeling alright.
I take the blame for my weight gain(s),plus being menopausal doesn't help one's weight (figure), sooooooooo I will not blame it on the Lamictal.
I do know that Depakote DOES cause weight gain, when I first was DXed that is was the first med doc's tried, it had negative effects,we went on to try some others, and eventually, ended up with Lamictal, I take 200mg's per day.
Lots of luck with this, keep the faith.
