I have been diagnosed with borderline personality, but my therapist is starting to think that it I have bipolar. In the past I definitely have manic phases (well at least one for sure) I did EVERYTHING (any everyone frankly) there are also times that I am depressed, but sometimes not super severely. My moods do definitely shift throughout the day/week frequently, which is probably why i got the BPD diagnosis. Can i have bipolar will periods of mild depression/ semi-stability?

Yeah, that's possible. It's also possible to have both BPD and BD at the same time.
Also with bipolar times of "stability" is part of the diagnosis, too. It's not just manic or depressed but everyone is different.

I agree 100% with Dark Heart. BPD is actually somewhat comorbid with Bipolar - it's more than possible to have both at the same time.

I have BP with BPD - it is OK, you can live with that. I would not want to switch that combination for lupus or diabetes or being morbidly obese or even high blood pressure. I prefer being BP/BPD with low blood pressure.

thanks for your answers everyone. My husband and therapist say that its not important to "label" people, but I want to know what I have so I can learn about it and be on the right meds. I think there is power in knowing the name of "the beast". I am still overwhelmed about it, but will talk to the therapist today. Wouldnt you rather know what you have so you can have a plan of action? It irritates me when people are telling me it isnt important!

it really mattered to me when I was diagnosed. It was a form of validation for me. I get it.

I completely understand. No one will tell me my dx because it seems ever evolving. Of course you want to know so you can be an advocate for yourself.
