Has anyone tried Cymbalta who has BP? My doc wants me on it because it might take care of chronic pain I have had for years and might help with depression, which is much larger issue for me than mania, or hypomania. Thanks

yep I was on it for a little bit. I have been on several antidepressants and have had quite intense reactions to all of them. Cymbalta I found to be the most intense of the lot.

I'm not a particularly good example for a positive result because something in my brain chemistry makes me basically allergic and I experience most of the bad side effects.

in the CMI (customer medical info) the serious side effects include worsening of depression and all the stuff that goes with that. thats what I experienced on cymbalta and became seriously psychotic....so for a percentage of people the reverse happens to what the drug is designed to do.

I don't want to discourage you from receiving treatment if thats what you are doing but it's important to be aware of both possible situations... getting better....or getting worse.

the only way to find out is to try....
just don't be afraid to say if things are getting worse

I was on cymbalta for depression before my bp dx. I recall feeling ok-ish. Then my bp dx came and I tried lamictal for a couple months then got pissed off and quit everything cold turkey. Worst withdrawals ever from cymbalta. I started researching it and found that it can cause permanent nerve damage among many other negatives. I don't get why they "treat" nerve problems with a med that "cause" nerve damage.

So up to you, if the benefits outweigh the risks. Hope you will be ok.

Yep, I was on Cymbalta for a while. It lost its effectiveness after a few months but I kept on with it for a while longer. When Cymbalta was good, it was wonderful, but that didn't last long. When I went off of it, I was miserable for several weeks. The brain zaps were awful.
