I think I've gained 5 or 6 pounds in the month I've been on the double dose. This is not acceptable.

Zyprexa is a pernicious drug. I feel for you!!!

I have given it up completely. I used to take it PRN when nothing worked for sleep, but then I discovered that THC works better. On one occasion Zyprexa 10 mg did not work but THC did. So no more Zyprexa over here.

Maybe tell them that you would like to switch to a different medication because the weight gain is unacceptable?

I think you certainly should discuss other meds with your Pdoc . Putting on weight from psych meds can cause loads of health problems not to mention the emotional torment of weight gain.

What other AP's have you tried? I know you lactated on Risperdal, so that's out. Anything else? Zyprexa causes the worst weight gain and can lead to diabetes. If you absolutely must continue on Zyprexa, I would strongly recommend adding Metformin to protect against diabetes. An endocrinologist would prescribe Metformin. I do not know your insurance situation, but without insurance Metformin is 20 bucks a month if you take it three times a day - not so bad.

this and won't let him dismiss you. Insist it IS problem with you and there is not fat and happy/stable for you, because gaining weight is throwing you off and you find the health risk unacceptable. I mean, you are still pretty young too, right?

Yeah, weight gain and diabetes are not good at any age. Actually, younger is worse to be diagnosed with diabetes, because it increases your risk complications later in life, making old age much harder to deal with.

Zyprexa was like a miracle drug for me, but I had to go off of it because it played merry hell with my blood sugars AND I gained over 20 lbs on top of the 300+ I already weighed!! Now that I'm off, my appetite has gone back to where I don't feel like I'm going to eat the upholstery, and my blood sugars, while not great, are definitely better.

I miss it, though......I haven't slept as well or as deeply since I went off.
